daily expenses for las vegas trip

We are taking a 3 day trip to Las Vegas in Feb. Planning to see "O" and one night of first timer black jack.(More intersested in the experience than the money making.) We'd like to shop and see classic sites. We love Jazz and would love to go to a intimate jazz performance. We will take some day trips away from the city. How much will I spend each day including travel(Taxis-shuttles) and midrange meals? If we only want ot do one really nice meal (Romantic) where would you recommend? We already paid for the "O" tickets. We're staying in the Flamingo.

Just curious...where do you plan to "day trip" in a taxi/shuttle from Vegas? Hoover Dam? Grand Canyon? Vegas is in the middle of the desert, so just curious where else you are planning to go via taxi.

Hard to say exactly what you will spend but here are some ideas. Taxis always seem to be around $7 up and down the strip, if you go downtown it is a lot more- I'm remembering $15?? Someone else here will know.

It is very hard to find blackjack tables under $10 min. now on the strip. The IP still had some $5 tables but other than that we didn't see any except in the daytime at the Luxor. You may want to go downtown for the cheaper tables. Learn the rules of blackjack, ask the dealer for advice and hope that your $40 can turn into $100! The main thing is that if the dealer is rude or is making you uncomfortable GET UP and LEAVE that table! Most are really nice and fun and there is no need to put up with the cranky ones!

There are so many places to eat and you'll hear tons of different stuff. I really like Bertollini's in Ceasar's Palace Forum. It's an Italian restaurant with a "patio" that sits right next to the fountain of Neptune in the square. I eat there everytime I go even if it's just for lunch and everyone I've taken loves it. It's so easy to pretend you are in the Plaza Navona in Rome! Very romantic! They don't take reservations but if you have to wait for a table you can have a drink in the bar or wonder around the Forum which is beautiful. It's not super dressy or considered one of the "really nice places" but I really find it romantic!

Have fun and good luck!

For low stakes BlackJack on the strip, try Casino Royale (next to the Venetian) or the Barbary Coast. For even lower stakes, try downtown (especially during the day).

A cab downtown will cost ~$20! A cheaper way to do it is to take the CAT (public transportation bus), cost is ~$2.25. I like this as it takes you out of "tourist mode" for a little while and puts you in with the "locals" of the area. The bus does make quite a few stops, but there is an EXPRESS/LIMITED STOP bus along the same route (same price) which i think only makes about 4 stops between the Flamingo and Downtown (as the concierge/bellman at the hotel where the nearest EXPRESS bus stop is).

If you're on a budget, food is MUCH cheaper downtown as well. I would recommend heading downtown at dusk, gambling some low stakes games (which will increase as the nite progresses), eat a cheaper dinner, and then see Freemont Street at nite (as nite is the best time to view downtown).
