Where to stay in Tonga: Vava'u & Tongatapu?

Hi,

I would like to get some recommendations on where to stay in Vava'u and Tongatapu.
We'd be in Tongatapu for 2 nights and in Vava'u for 5.
We are would like to stay on a nice beach.
I have checked the Fafa Island resort and the Royal Sunset resort, but since they are in an offshore island, and we'll only be spending two nights in Tongatapu, I think it might be easier if we stay in Tongatapu.

Thank you for your recommendations.
Alexandra

You'll love Vava'u - one of the finest harbors on earth and very relaxed. We discoved a place called the Paradise Hotel (run a few years ago by a guy from Kentucky). It was inexpensive and comfortable - the view from the pool and dining area was brilliant. Be very very afraid of any hostel or backpacker places there. We got stuck in one for a night and it was a horror, mosquitos everywhere, wrecked toilets, over-run with noisy backpackers, and very hot. I think the place was called the Hillside or something like that - perhaps it's better now. Anyway, the Paradise was paradise after that.

On the main island, we stayed at Keleti Beach Resort some distance from town on the south side and loved it. Very near the famous blowholes - a must! The cultural tours they do from there are excellent, too. See Tonga's answer to Stonehenge - fascinating.

Hi,

Thank you for your response. Can you please tell me more about the Keleti Beach Resort? Was the beach nice?
Did you fly Royal Tongan Airlines? If yes, was the plane very full? My husband works for American Airlines, so we fly stand by, and I heard that the planes are very full.
Thank you!

Alexandra
