Leaving a river cruise in Basel and need to take a flight back to USA out of Zurich. It looks like the cities are 54 miles apart. May be traveling by car to get to Zurich. Do you know if leaving 1 hours for driving time is sufficient amount of time by car? Or, is taking a train from Basel to the Zurich airport easier?

We were in a similar situation - our cruise company offered coach travel to Zurich airport from the boat. Check with your travel agent to see if this is available on your cruise.

I'd re-post on the Europe forum -- there are several Swiss based fodorites and many who travel there frequently. It is a much busier board than this one.

I would never allow just 1 hour for a 50+ mile trip -- especially to catch an international flight.

If you go to rome2rio.com, shows 1 1/2 hr by train and 1 hr to drive, so you probably need to leave more time.
