Hi, my husband and I are taking a quick 4 day Vegas getaway during President's week. We've been several times before, so we are looking for any advice to shake it up a bit.

He loves magic, so we are going to see Penn and Teller.

We were downtown in Old Vegas last time and really enjoyed it. We are thinking of spending one night there.

I've always wanted to stay at Treasure Island, but I see that the pool will be closed. We are from Michigan and anywhere will be warmer than Detroit in February, but I was hoping for a small spa indulgence such as an outdoor hot tub.

The room doesn't matter much since we won't be in it very often so I guess I'm looking for something different and not too pricey. We've stayed at Bellagio, Paris, Monte Carlo, and MGM.

We love celebrity restaurants, especially Top Chef. What is out there these days?

My favorite buffet (pay before 3PM) is upstairs at the Golden Nugget. If the pool is open the slide goes through the shark tank. You have a view of the pool along one wall of the buffet room. Rooms should be cheap in February.

February isn't really pool weather in Las Vegas. Average highs will likely be in the low 60s and average lows in the 40s. Not sure which hotels keep their pools open. There are tons of celebrity restaurants - too many too list. Any chefs in particular that you're interested in?

Thanks all! I was just ready to book two nights at the Golden Nugget, when we came across a $35 fee to get a non-smoking room. Husband is offended by this. Is this a real thing? And how do we get this waived? That pool looks awesome and reopens Feb. 2!

I just booked the air and we will be there Feb. 21 to 25. Not pool weather, but if anyone knows of any cool outdoor hot tub that would be really good.

Anyone on Top Chef would be a great restaurant to hit. I wonder if there is a list somewhere?

I don't watch Top Chef so I can't help you there. I have been to various celebrity chef restaurants in Las Vegas including Wolfgang Puck, Bobby Flay, Emerill Lagasse, and most recently Giada. Not sure if any of them were on Top Chef.

Are you sure that the $35 fee is for a non-smoking room? Or could it just be the resort fee for any room? A lot of hotels in Las Vegas now charge a resort fee.

Not Top Chef, but Giada's in the Cromwell was enjoyable. We've tried breakfast, lunch and dinner, and liked all three.

The booking was weird. It was $35 for a non smoking room, but then when I didn't book it, they sent me an email for 15% off, which didn't have the non smoking thing, but DID have the resort fee that the other didn't have. I'll keep checking.

kellie, most hotels will have the resort fee. I think the Golden Gate is the only one downtown that does not have the resort fee.

Mon Ami Gabi at the Paris Hotel was the best restaurant we ate at in Vegas when we went last February. Get a table in the front and feel like you are in Paris!

And I think you would smell like smoke just from walking in the Golden Nugget.

I'll piggy back here: is there any hotel that is relatively free of smoke in the casino areas?

I find most of the casinos have very good air filtration systems and the smoke isn't really an issue.

All do have non-smoking areas.

Great question. If one person has smoked in my hotel room in the past I swear I can smell it.

OK so now our plans have changed a little bit because another couple is going to go with us and they're staying at MGM with some points that they have. Where would be a nice place to stay near there that would have some hot tub options?

When staying downtown LV, go to Hugo's Cellar at Four Queens for dinner...classic old school restaurant.. Very good food.

Do the zip line over Fremont Experience.

Eating on the strip..Delmonico's...Le Cirque..
Burger Bar..Lakeside at Wynn..Oyster Bar at Palace Station..pan roasts are sublime..24/7 and always a wait but this place is a must.

Cheap eats..Tacos el Gordo...Lotus of Siam..Peppermill..In and Out..Secret pizza at Cosmo..

Treasure island is a fun place to gamble..only stayed once over NYE..only place available, where we usually stay at the Wynn or FS..great mid price and TI has a fantastic coffee shop!

Across the street, you have Mandalay Bay, Luxor, and Excalibur: supposedly Excalibur has an open pool open to guests of Luxor and NYNY(also kind of across the street).
Mandalay might have good prices now for obvious reasons, and Luxor and Excalibur have offered bargain basement prices.

You should call any place you read that might have an open pool and check (and the indoor spas can be nice options for hot tubs).

BTW, rates during any holiday should be locked down soonest?
