Driving from Bouzies to Figeac

We will be spending ten days in the Lot in June after a stay in Aix and before heading up to Paris, and I've been doing my homework in anticipation. We've spent a fair amount of time in the Dordogne, so I know the more popular parts of the region pretty well, but it's our first time basing in the Lot (in St. Cere), although we dipped in during our last visit. Here's my question: I'm not sure which route to take from the area around Bouzies and St Cirq Lapopie to Figeac--whether to hug the Lot and then cut north when we reach the D822 or to follow the Cele on the D41 through Cabrets and Marcilhac and on to Figeac.

Opinions on the scenery?

Thanks.

https://www.viamichelin.com/web/Rout...=&arrivalDate=

offers two different routes. Given the short distance, I would simply toss a coin.

>> to follow the Cele on the D41 through Cabrets and Marcilhac and on to Figeac.<<

That is a very scenic & interesting drive. Beautiful river, cute small villages, and many homes built into the cliffs. We've driven along both the Cele & Lot between St Cirq Lapopie & Figeac many times. Once we took the Cele river from St Cirq to Figeac, and the Lot back to St Cirq on the same day. The Cele is much more interesting. The Lot has too much foliage that gets in the way of viewing the Lot.

Thanks, Stu. That's exactly the kind of answer I was hoping to get. I know that the drive is six of one and half a dozen of the other, but I was wondering whether one was simply prettier. Much appreciated.

The Celé would be my choice too.

And don't miss Jean Lurçat's atelier if you're in the neighborhood (St-Céré):
