Where to leave luggage while touring Amsterdam for 10 hours
We arrive in Amsterdam airport this Saturday at 7:00 am, and we have tickets to visit the Anne Frank house for 9:45 - 10:15 am.
Should we store our luggage at the airport (our flight leaves that night at 8:00 pm for Barcelona) or at the train station?
Also:
(a) how long should it take us to get to the Anne Frank house from the airport that morning if we take public transportation? and
(b) when should we plan on leaving the downtown area to go back to the airport for our evening flight?
Thanks .

There are TWO left luggage options at Schiphol....the attended luggage room and the automated lockers...they are right next to one another..follow the signs. Do NOT drag your luggage into the city for storage.
The train from the airport to Centraal Station takes between 15-20 minutes and you can get a tram from outside the front of the station to within easy walking distance of the Anne Frank House. Trains run about every 15 minutes in BOTH directions.

You should aim to be back at Schiphol in plenty of time for your flight. For Schengen countries the security is centralised, and the queues can be big. Boarding starts early in an effort to close the gate on time, and avoid the fines.
2 Hours is the recommended time, but if you are already checked in for the onward flight you could cut it a bit finer.
Bear in mind that rush hour applies to the trains too, and they could be pretty full on your way back to Schiphol.
The trip takes between 14 and 25 minutes, depending on the train you catch. It cost €7 return.
Trams 17 and 13 (amongst others) go to Westermarkt, from where you can walk to the Anne Frankhuis. Or try the Stop/ Go bus, which will take you from near the station to the house for €1. The driver will tell you where to get off.
Are your bags not checked through -or are you carry-on only?

Here's a link to a Google Map with walking directions... we walked from the station a couple of years ago and it only takes about 20-25 minutes... Amsterdam is a city made for walking!

Dukey,
I believe that you are referring to the luggage storage deep in the cellar of Schiphol. IMO it is not well posted. You take an elevator. This is on the land side of security checks.
There are also luggage lockers in the secure zone. I forget exactly where but they are very visible. These would save time coming and going.

Hi everyone,
There is a new luggage storage in the center of Amsterdam called DropandGo! It is more easy and less expensive than the lockers at Amsterdam Central Station. In case you forgot something within your luggage you can pick it up without paying again. They also have lockers where you can charge your laptop or mobile phone or camera. It's located in the center of Amsterdam within 5 min walk from Central Station.

We have just returned after spending 2 days in Amsterdam.
We used the train from airport to the Central Station. Right in front of this large station is the Amsterdam Tourist office. They can provide you with good maps and show you the route if needed to go to Anne Frank Home.
We walked leisurely and found it easily. The walk is interesting and not too long.
Enjoy Amsterdam.

My experience with the lockers at Schiphol is that they are often out of order and the ones at central station have some disadvantages in my view (e.g., if you just want to take something out of your locker, but want to continue using it, then you need to pay again). I therefore prefer to use a locker at Lockerpoint nowadays, it is only a 4 minute walk from the central station but their lockers have a lot of advantages (e.g., I can open the locker as many times as I want without having to pay again, there is a charging point in the locker so I can charge my phone/camera and the lockers are quite big - I put two trolleys in one locker (our hand luggage)).
Furthermore, the location is great, it is very central, so you can easily explore the city. And if you want to rent a bike.... they rent bikes as well;-) Check their website: www.lockerpoint.com
