First time in MC
I would like to spend 4 nights in MC in early March.
Cannot decide in what part of the city to stay.
Many hotels are near Zocolo - is there much to do there at night?
I speak Spanish and I am comfortable taking the metro during the day.
Could someone suggest a hotel that in a lively and safe area .
The rate ...about $ 150 , more or less.
Thx.

My choice is the Majestic right on the Zocalo But be sure to get a outside room overlooking the Zocalo.
PS No not a lot of night life but after a day of tramping the sights I am happy to end the day at their roof top restaurant .

Holly smokes, if you are used to European cities, then you will feel right at home in MC. Like yourself, we were there for 4 nights last March and loved every minute of it...
The nights can be somewhat cool so you need to take a good warm jacket. We stayed in Zona Roma and felt incredibly well situated with eating out every night and found many bars and eateries for a late night drink or happy hour and everything was in walking distance.
There are soooo many things to see and do, Do take the hop on-hop off bus tour in Central, do see the Castle in Chapultepec, do see the museum of Antropology, do see the pyramids, the plaza Zocalo....etc !

Agree with Rohelio. In Roma, I might suggest Hotel Stanza, about $55 US depending how you book. It's right on Alvaro Obregon, the center of Roma's restaurant scene, which while active, is not party central. Nor tacky like the Zona Rosa tends to be.
A second, cheaper option might be Hotel Roosevelt in Condesa. Condesa is a maybe more trendier and a tad more subdued. But Roma is tough to beat.

I stayed in Condesa but we dined more frequently in Roma. I am a runner and the parks and tree-lined walkways of Condesa were a plus for me; I went jogging every morning. It was also a pleasant area in which to wander in the evenings--so many people out and about, walking their dogs, socializing, etc.
I loved Mexico City, but to me it isn't like a European city and that's just fine.

Please note, we were in Zona Roma North, not south, and we stayed in a small hotel called Condesa in front of a small park. I mentioned that It felt a bit Eoropean, because Mexico cty is not a beach town where the people dress accordingly. I must say that for the greater part, the locals dressed very well and also behaved in a similar fashion to Paris and Italy and England... at least that is what I felt. I brought over a suit, and was very happy and comfortable to wear it.... for the climate and also for the evening outings.

I Returned from MC yesterday ...thank you again fort he helpful suggestions.
I stayed in Condesa at Maria Condesa hotel...Loved the hotel ,the vibe in the area full of restaurants, leafy streets , Art Deco and Art Nuveau buildings, 2,parks ..
I wanted to use the metro but was told not to (being a woman alone.)
Transportation to various places was a bit of a pain...it was suggested to ask the hotel to call a taxi or go to a taxi stand
but not use pink/ white taxis . Well, hotel had their drivers( which was fine ) but getting back to Condesa was my " problem"
I tried taxi stands but had the impression some there were just people trying to make some money ( not official taxis )
i took one of the pink/ white taxis ...it was fine, he had a meter and charge me accordingly. Another white/ pink car driver
told me ahead of time what the charge wold be.
I speak Spanish which was , I guess, an advantage. Originaly , I planed on taking the local bus to the pyramids; unfortunately, I was not feeling well so the hotel had someone drive me there, wait for several hour and drive me back - all for about $85 dollars. Money well spent IMO.
I liked the city very much and hope to return - hopefully with my husband so we can take the metro instead spending time
in MC's nightmarish traffic.
