Anywhere within the 3 provinces of the Yucatan peninsula.

Quintana Roo, being the most popular with Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Playakar, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal and Tulum, which together form the ever popular, Riviera Maya.
Cancún, although very popular is not part of the Riviera.

Yucatan, with the very clean and safe colonial city called Merida, a cultural hub for those who wish to appreciate the real Mexican way of life ! The small seaside village called Progreso (40 minutes North ) is popular with Canadians and price conscious travellers, the beach is similar to PV but cleaner and without the PV sunset.

Campeche, which is not really on the tourist map yet except for some very popular archeological sites and pink flamingos.

It must be said that all 3 provinces hold amazing archeological sites, not to mention Chichen Itza and Uxmal and are recognized as THE safest winter destinations in Mexico. As for islands, you can research the popular ones but I believe would not be practicle with your timetable.

Please note that IMO, there are other safe and welcoming cities in Mexico such as PV and Bucerias but unfortunately are not part of the Yucatan but part of the Riviera Nayarit.

Hope this will help you decide.
PS. We are now in the small village of La Cruz de Guanacastle, North of PV, which is not all that popular but very safe and friendly.

without the PV sunset.

We could help you better if you gave us more information:
How warm, how far, from where, how many nights, budget per night, other interests: Maya sites, diving, snorkeling, caving, contemporary indigenous culture?

This is the most expensive time of the year to travel and you are quite late to be booking anything. Make your decision quickly.
Also, as stated above, we need more information as to budget, activities you want, etc.

That is true. I'm sure you can find something. But the two weeks around the holidays, many/most places double their room or rent rates.

Just as a place to start I would get on a general website like Cheap Caribbean dot com and see what kinds of things pop up for your dates, checking a few different locationss.

There is a separate forum here on Fodor's for cruises. You can post a new question on that branch.

(Sorry never been on one myself.)

Also try Cruise Critic forums. Never been on a cruise either, like to travel on my own schedule.

Also the Caribbean forum here on Fodor's since you are now interested in Puerto Rico and the islands, not Mexico or Central America.

I too would be concerned about the conditions in Puerto Rico after the hurricane.
We have taken several cruises out of PR. What cruise line are you using?
