Restaurants in Bangkok
It has been about 6 years since my last trip to Bangkok. Any recommendations for restaurants near the Sheraton Grande? Any type of food would be fine but would tend to prefer SE Asia to Indian fare since we are in the neighborhood. Have stayed at the ROS, Conrad and Four Seasons in the past.

We still love Biscotti in old Four Seasons, ate there last week.
Bangkok Baking Co in jw Marriott soi 2 Sukhumvit great for lunch...ate there yesterday.
Lots of places on soils all around Sheraton grande.
Rang Mahal on top floor of Rembrandt Hotel on soi 14 or 16, Sukhumvit.
Mrs Bilba around soi 11.

Hello! Glad to hear you are returning to Bangkok.
Some restaurant recs: (All three were in the top 50 restaurants list sponsored by San Pelligrino)
Gaggan which is molecular gastronomy - absolutely amazing.
Nahm - Thai food (located in the Metropolitan Hotel) excellent food, some of which is remarkably hot. So when they say a dish is hot, it is HOT11
Bo.Lan Thai food - the food was vey good, well-spiced, but not burn your mouth out hot. While the food was good, I didn't think it warranted top 50 status.

* Basil restaurant inside of the Sheraton Grande. I used to eat there regularly and then forgot about it, but went in Jan 2017, only to find out that it was a day that they were closed for lunch. I think it was on a Saturday. So, I ate at the cafe-style restaurant inside of that hotel and it was also very good. I'll go back to Basil on the upcoming trip. I also took cooking class at Basil, years ago, and was the only student and both the class and food were excellent. Below are the recent reviews.

* Erawan Tearoom. I've eaten there for so many years until I can't even remember when I first started eating there. The waitresses remember me from year to year. It's in the shopping mall right above the Erawan Shrine and overlooks the shrine. Below are the reviews. I do lunch there, but have also done dinner. Last year, they got a new chef, but I also liked it when the other chef was there. Some items on the menu have changed, but they do the old items if I request them.

Kalprapruek Restaurant. I’ve eaten there for years, too. Thai friends and I go there. There was one in the mall right across from the mall where Central Chitlom department store is, but it closed as I went by there in Jan 2017. That was the quiet one with a lot of locals. But, there’s the really busy one inside of Central World Mall on Rajadamri Rd. I walk to that one. A Thai friend and I also eat at that one. This restaurant also has some really good cake. I used to eat at the one inside of Emporium Mall (top level) for years as my regular serviced apartment building was Emporium Suites, attached to Emporium Mall.

All of the above are within walking distance of Rajadamri neighborhood, one of my two regular neighborhoods. But, they can easily be reached by skytrain.

The Kalpapruek Restaurant at Suk 39 looks interesting. I didn't know that there was one there. I wonder how long it has been there as that restaurant group has closed some locations and opened other ones. It's near Emporium EM Mall at Prom Phong (BTS) sky train station. I'll also try that one. I wonder if that's a new location. The structure that it houses is beautiful.

Below is a restaurant on Suk 23. I haven't tried it yet, but read a write-up about it and will probably have the annual holiday dinner there. I just e-mailed a Thai friend to mention that I think I'll have the dinner there. Plus, I need to go to Suk 23 anyhow to go the Yacco Maricard flagship clothing boutique which has moved there. Suk 23 would be near Asoke (BTS) sky train station.

It just hit me that I might have eaten at The Local back in Jan 2016, I think it was. I've eaten as so many places until I can't even remember them all. LOL! But, another Thai friend, her brother, cousin, and I met at Terminal 21 and walked to the restaurant where we ate.
The outside front and side of the restaurant, in the photo of The Local, look very familiar. I just e-mailed the friend to see if it's the same restaurant as I don't remember seeing a sign when we ate there and she thought that we were at a different restaurant with another name which has happened more than once with that particular Thai friend. LOL! Once she and I went to a restaurant, by the river, and sat down only to find out that we were in the wrong restaurant and that the correct one was a block down the street. We went into laughing hysteria. The eating adventures in Bangkok. Priceless. Have a great time in my favorite city! Smiles.

Arrived BKK 2400 last night via Hong Kong. Decent priority club next to Cathay departure area. Taxi 600 baht to Sheraton Grande including toll. Day at weekend market with a stop at Siam Paragon. Looking at dinner possibilities now!

There are lots of trendy new restaurants around town... ask at the hotel.
EM2 at Emporium Mall (other side of Sukhumvit-- cross over bridge onfloor1-- great Xmas decorations on bridge). 9 floors of restaurants along a descending ramp-- take elevator to 9 to start.
L'Opera on soi 39, Sukhumvit is a favorite.
Le Delat on soi 23 is lovely

Ate at the Punjab grill last night. Quite good. Chef just won a Iron Chef Thailand competition. There are just to many dining options here! Even the food courts look interesting. Kinda like looking at the cheese selection at Bon Marche or trying to decide what to take out at the Isetan department food floor.

I love your Bon Marche (La Grande Epicerie) and Isetan comparisons as to the variety of food choices in Bangkok.
When in Paris, I do my grocery shopping at La Grand Epicure and have eaten a lot out of Isetan. Smiles.

Spent most of yesterday at Baumgard hospital for an extensive yearly physical followed by Face spa an dinner. Dinner was ok but expensive. Trying to decide on dinner tonight. Do not tend to eat Lunch due to large hotel breakfast each am.

* Yeah, Face is expensive. I've been there twice of which one was with a Thai friend, over a decade ago, as I wanted to try it out back then. It was OK, but there are so many other really good restaurants in town.

I can't wait to get back to Basil, soon. I had some really good chu chee (red curry) there and all of my dishes were delicious. I either ordered fish dishes or vegetarian ones as I don't eat meat/poultry.
