Wedding Destinations???

I am starting to explore my options for a wedding in the Caribbean and am unsure which island would be a good choice. This is my second marriage, so I do not need all the wedding hype. A simple beach ceremony for a few friends is what I have in mind with a few days for a honeymoon. I have considered St. Lucia, Barbados, T & C or even possibly Exumas. No AI or touristy venues or places to stay. Would like a vacation rental for up to 4 couples near the beach or with views of the beach. Looking for a more cultural, local feel. I am looking for a more cost effective option. We enjoy the beaches, snorkeling and exploring the island. No big touristy places!!! We have also considered a cruise with a wedding in one of the ports so that it is less expensive as well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Define in terms of dollars what you mean by "a more cost effective option" - more cost effective than what????

Are you looking for a rental villa that will accommodate all 8 people or do you want a condo complex where each couple has their own rental unit?

I am looking for a rental that averages no more than $300 per couple a day. I have searched on airbnb and have found several villas on a few islands that are averaging $1000-$1200 a night. I am just not sure which island to choose.

For very nice beaches and very good to excellent snorkeling look at villas on Virgin Gorda. If the ones on Mahoe Bay are in your price range and available for your preferred dates don't hesitate - book it. You'll have your choice of beachfront and beach access villas - all with great views. The beach there is one of the best on the island, 3/4 mile long golden sand beach lapped by calm gin clear water. There's a "triple reef" that begins 100' of shore that runs the entire length of the bay - you can snorkel for hours and not see everything. Beach has a western exposure so you get fantastic views of the setting sun and neighboring islands and cats. In short it doesn't get much better anywhere in the Caribbean.

I also think Mahoe Bay villas would be a good fit based on your criteria. Also check out vacation rentals on Eleuthera (Governors Harbour area). We love Great Exuma for beaches but I found it slightly lacking in restaurants and the local feel you mention. Congratulations on your wedding.

Did you say when you're getting married? Low season would be much more cost effective. May is nice.

I will check out your suggestions on Virgin Gorda!!! I had wondered about that area as well. This winter we were in the Exumas and flew over to Eleuthera as well. I do like the beaches and the more laid back atmosphere but seems like there is very limited options with a group of 8. I will be getting married in Feb or March due to my bf's business. Thanks for the suggestions. It has been confusing when looking for more out of the way places!

How about Jamaica? You can usually find good deals on rooms there. What I like most there is their concept of the all-inclusive resort including all types of water sports, gourmet restaurants, private beach dinners and even free weddings with a minimum night's stay.

How I love to go there and a good choice for wedding destination.
