It depends on the region in Spain.
For Madrid and Castilia, the best seasons are April to June and September/October. Due to high elevation, Madrid is very cold in winter and hot in summer. Very extreme.
For Barcelona and the Costa Brava, the best season is from April to September.
For Cantabria, the best season is July and August.
For Andalusia, the best season is from February to April and November.
For the Canary Islands, the best season is from January to December.

Totally depends on the area. For Andalusia I think April and Oct are the best - May through Sept is just too hot to be enjoyable.
If you are going to the Atlantic coast leave that for the sumer since it can be chilly and rainy for much of the year.
Where are you going and for how long?

Spring or fall
I like early fall in Madrid when Retiro turnes golden and nights are still mild.
I have experienced a couple of years of rainy and cool end of April in Barcelona .(and Madrid this year)
