Portugal or Morocco in April with teen age kids ?

Hello,
We are contemplating our spring break destination during 2nd week of April with our 2 kids ages 15 and 11. We will have about 8 nights to spend. How's the weather going to be in Portugal ? I know beaches are probably going to be too cold though. Another choice is Morocco considering it is impossible to visit in summer.

Any suggestions or advise ?

Where in Morocco? Because for instance in Saidia (a touristic destination) women might be able to be treated like a human being, but in other places things can go bad. As you are travelling as a family, maybe you would like to consider this, less important if your kids are boys.

Not expensive, and really beautifull, and with a better weather: Sicily! Maybe you would like to consider this place.

About Portugal, weather in April depends a lot, we don't know what about. You can find nice beach weather, mainly at algarve, or rainy cold weather!

Wherever you choose to go, wish you nice hollydays!

I have no idea, of course, the source of the chip on HelenaFatima's shoulder regarding Morocco. But, having spent time in Morocco 6 or 7 times now, I've never been treated with anything but respect. I doubt, if you decide to visit Morocco (which I recommend), that your experience will be different from mine.

I have been to Morocco at least a half-dozen times and have no idea what HelenaFatima is talking about. It is a beautiful, historically fascinating place, and I have never been disrespected there. as a woman, even traveling alone. She must have some baggage from a bad experience, which could happen anywhere. I went there 6 weeks after 9/11, to give you some idea of how totally unafraid I was of visiting.

I also don't understand why it's "impossible to visit in summer." Because of the heat? It's hot lots of places.

I would choose Morocco, but you haven't said why these were your choices or what your interests are, so it's really impossible for us to say.

Same here. Moroccans have always been nice to us

However it seems the political situation is not perfect right (just read some headlines) so you might want to check.

Thanks. I understand I didn't give much details about our interests, sorry.

I am traveling with a teenage daughter so respect and safety is important.

We typically do beach vacations in Spring and longer trips in Summer to other countries. But this year since spring break is in mid April for us, thought of changing things a little.

Morocco has been on our list for sometime, summer is too hot for us to visit there. I just thought of Portugal as another option since Lisbon has been on my list too No particular reason. We love culture, food and experiences travel brings us and we love to visit different countries with kids to make it more enriching experience.

Our daughter is living in Morocco right now (Salé). She is an experienced traveller in the area. The level of harassment is higher than she has experienced in the past. It may be a local issue, it may be temporary or it may be the luck of the draw.

She does note that local Moroccans have often stepped in to end the harassment.

Glad that some Morrocans have always been nice to someone, glad that local morocanns have often stepped in to the end of harassnment, glad to know morrocans had been allways nice to some people here... but... even so... just remember it is a country where women worth less then a cow.

If your primary interest is a beach vacation, then the Canary Islands would be my first choice in April.

In Morocco, it will be warm enough for beaches, but Morocco is too beautiful to lounge on beaches. Morocco is breathtaking. Climate is very diverse, depending on where you are. However, it is right that June to September is generally too warm.

In April, climate in Morocco is wonderful. You can explore the Sahara desert, fantastic medinas, all wonders of the orient (albeit Morocco belongs to the maghreb, the west).

Well, regarding harrassment. DW was treated like a queen in Morocco, when we travelled with our family. Families are in extremely high respect in Morocco - with our two (twin) sons and a friend of a son (who was taken as the third son by Moroccans) we were everywhere regarded as "the family". Moroccans love families.

April in Morocco is lovely. Might be a bit chilly in Portugal. The only headline grabbing news we've seen was about a fisherman in Al Hoceima who illegally fished swordfish and when it was taken from him, he dove into the garbage truck and was crushed. There were some protests but am not sure what was being protested.

Cold - Sale, where we, too, lived, is a very conservative town. Some fundamentalists there. I'm wondering how your daughter dresses. What might be considered acceptable here may not be there. It is 2016, but that doesn't mean that skimpy clothing can be worn there.

Yes, go to Maroc for a wonderful holiday !

<<a country where women worth less then a cow.>>

That is just so harsh, and I completely disagree.

Bedar she dresses very conservatively. She speaks French and Arabic. Knows the culture.

She's not complaining, just reporting.

I expected a response from H-Fatima but not that she felt she was worth less than a cow in Morocco. It's never occurred to me to compare my own worth to that of a cow, anywhere, and maybe that's why I always have a fine time in Morocco and she didn't. Another example of a good attitude being essential in travel and in life.

I am sure d trump considers women less than cows.
Moroccans ? Not sure.
They were offering camels for my wife. And then laughed like Devils.

Can't imagine someone calling herself Fatima Helena not being conservatively dressed though. Must be something else. Care to elaborate ?

He's obviouslly supporting visiting Morocco, and so do I. My husband at the time was offered a herd of goats for me as well, and we all took it as the joke that it was. If you don't have a sense of humor, don't travel.

WoinParis, StCirq just elaborate from me, I probably have a lack of sense of humor.

I do not call myself Fatima Helena, I am Helena de Fátima, and my name was decided by my parents. It might sound strange to many people but I use, here and in other foruns, my real name.

StCirq, I was just clarifying, no need to be rude. It's hard to make out if a person is joking online, that's all.
