Honeymoon Ideas

Hello ,

You guys have helped me in past and I am here with new confusion .

We got married and couldn't go on a relaxing trip afterwards, we are planning one in October .

My first choice was Maldives for 8 days , but sadly the water villas are way too costly and I am not dropping this idea. (2-3k euros just for resort )
Where else In Europe I can go ?? Somewhere beautiful, less touristic.
What I thought of As of now is :
Greece
Canary Island

I have been to all major tourist cities .

we are Indians, living in Germany on resident visa which I am mentioning as to go to UK or US we need to apply for separate visa and we can't do it right now.

thank you in advance

You might want to wait to go to the Maldives until you are back in India - it's a much shorter trip from India than from Germany! There are less expensive resorts in Maldives and there are some thread about this on the Asia forum. Go to the Asia forum and choose search by country and choose "Maldives." By scrolling through those threads, you will find a few about less expensive resorts in the Maldives.

While you mention Greece and the Canary Islands, both of which are honeymoon-worthy destinations, your post is also tagged for Monaco and Portugal. Portugal is a good option, but I'd cross Monaco off your list - very expensive and nothing to do there but watch the very rich lose their money at the gaming tables (but only if you are properly dressed).

Happy Honeymoon!

How late in October?

If you want a beach-oriented honeymoon, consider Sardinia, Corsica, Mallorca or Malta. There are relatively short, direct flights to each island from Germany, so you won't lose much time out of your vacation getting there and back. Beautiful beaches on each.

Agree that Monaco is not a great idea.

A tiny country with not much to do except shop at designer boutiques, eat at very expensive restaurants and gamble (if you're well enough dressed).

We have been a couple of times and it's fun for a day in summer, when the harbor is full of huge yachts and their owners are in the casino gambling in tuxes, gowns and jewels a la James Bond. But not good for more than a day even then unless you are coming from one of the yachts.

Thank you Kathie and nytraveller , I have dropped the idea of Monaco and finalized on Greece and making an itinerary now.

Maldives was my personal favorite and as we live in Germany now we would b going from here only, Probably on first Anniversary
Lots and lots of saving on the way.

@Jean : Mallorca we have been to and we both want bit of adventure as well. SO Greece is better that way and we can go visit some tourist places .

thank you !!

Hi geetlily,

If you've narrowed down your choice to Greece, suggest you start a new thread tagged for just that country.

October is a good time for Greece, especially the early part of the month when ferries are still on their summer schedules, weather is mild, and popular tourist spots no longer crowded.

If I may add my view. If you are looking for a mix of beaches, culture, wine, food I would reconsider Portugal. The Douro region and the little hilltop villages would be ideal for a honeymoon. And to top it off it is one of Europe's cheapest destinations and outside of the Algarve not touristy. We loved it.
