Prague on a budget...

** apologies forgot to tag in previous post**

Hi everyone, usually chat on the USA boards but hoping I could nip on to pick some brains re: Prague on a reasonably modest budget...?

My brother is hoping to book for first week of September. Traveling from UK, he and his pal are late 20s/ early 30s interested in cheap and cheerful accommodation in decent location to see usual tourist sights/ eateries etc.

He wasn't sure if a hostel may be the way to go to make the most of his budget? If so any areas/ recommendations?

Very much appreciated
Sarah

If they don't mind a hostel, neighbors of ours just returned and enjoyed "Little Quarter Hostel". They are 6-beds per room/per bath and shared male/female.

Otherwise this well-reviewed apartment on Mylnarska is 35pounds per night for two, with a good cancellation policy:

Our family of five stayed here in March. The best location of any hostel we have used. Clean rooms. Very helpful front desk.

this is a great website for info on Prague, I have set it at the cheaper accommodation page. loads of options there. Debbies recommendation of Booking.com is a good one too.
Prague is a pretty cheap place to visit and compared to the UK is really cheap especially for beer and food.
I am in Prague several time a year, back there in 3 weeks time with a small walking group, we are staying in the Dejvice area in the Meda-art hotel which works out around £30 per person sharing a room per night and that includes breakfast. worth considering staying away from the main centre as you get better deals on places just make sure they are close to a tram or metro stop. The Public transport is excellent and cheap,24hr pass is only 110kc (about £3)

How many people are "his pals"?

I ask because for 2-4 people sometimes budget hotels sharing a room would be cheaper than 4 individuals paying for a bunk at a hostel.

Prague hotels are cheap. I don't see why you should stay in a hostel and share a room with strangers. Do you really want to be sleeping next to a weirdo who hasn't showered in days?

Please don't listen to the bad advice above.

The booking site is so easy to find a budget hotel.

Once you select your dates and continue, on the left will be a filter and you can select under $100 US and see many hotels with comments.

Prague hotels are a price, but hostels and B&Bs are much cheaper. Certainly I've paid E30 for a nice room for two but not in the centre. So, if you decide you must stay cheap then make sure you are on the tram/bus system. Google will advise on this

Actually the booking site is really good about location.

First using the filter, check under $100 and after it resets, then go to 'district' on the bottom left and you will find many in prime locations and then view the comments to see if any are acceptable..

Start with the 'Real Heart of Prague', all in district one.
