Hello everybody. I´m going on a trip to Northen Italy mid September, I have 13 days. So I need a little help with itinerary. The cities I´m thinking on visiting are:
Venezia (3 days)
Padua
Verona
Bologna
Pisa
San Gimingano
Cinqueterre- Portevenere and Portofino
Genova
Turin

Which cities do you think worth only a daytrip and in which do I need to make a base, I´m thinking on moving by train so I think is faster.

For me none needs more than one day and I would base myself in Firenze or Siena.

so if you start with Venice, and end in Turin, that leaves you a max of 2 but probably only one place in between. Bologna might be a good choice - and interesting place in itself [so i gather, I haven't got there yet] but a very good base for day trips by train.

You aren't giving yourself more than a day anywhere (except Venice), so I'm not sure what the question is.



Siena isn't a good base if you intend to rely on trains.

You can day trip to Padua and Verona from Venice.

Pisa, Bologna and San Gimignano are easy day trips from Florence. Pisa and Bologna by train, and SanG by bus.

There is no train service to Portovenere, but you can reach it by public transportation by bus or ferry.

There are train connections between Genoa, Portofino, the Cinque Terre and Turin.

Start with at least three days in Venice.

Bologna is a good base, since many trains go through it. You can do a day trip to Ravenna--that I highly recommend.

Padova is close by...very nice for a couple of days.

Florence is a short train ride...you should spend a few days there.

ssander - the OP hasn't got that much time. after 3 days, say, in Venice [which is 4 nights] and at least 2 in Turin, that doesn't leave much time for Bologna, Florence and Padova.
