Swimming in 17th century fountains in Rome

3 young girls made an enormous buzz when going into a fountain in Rome with temps above 32C (100 F ?).

What I find funny is that when typing the same keywords in google (fountain, bikini and rome) you find 6 tabloids in English (mostly UK), 3 in French (at least on belgian) and ... only one local. So it seems that the outrage is proportional to habits of the readers and finally Romans don't care so much...

I guess this answer our typical 'what should I wear when visiting Eurpoe : a bikini !

I guess the original topic got zapped due to the title.

It was an Italian who originally tweeted the photo, and wasn't very happy. The English speaking press have picked it up of course.

Could be worse, they could have been in their underwear or naked. And how do they know they are tourists? They could be locals.

32C is 90. It's not that hot.

Indeed. Choosing a title is not within everyone's grasp.
PQ is one of the best among us for that !

Yes I was also wondering how they knew they were tourists.
Something I said in the earlier version is that it will entice more people to do it !

I remember going into a 20cm deep fountain with a german friend, naked, at midnight. Thank god portable phones didn't even exist at the time, nor numeric cameras for that matter. But with enough beer I could do it again ! In Rome ?

Gosh. Google a reference in English and most of the sites returned are English-speaking. Who'd a thought it?

Google "turiste fontana bagno bikini" and you get 61,000 results. All from Italian media.

In contrast to these UK and Roman papers, my hometown paper has one headline that reads: "Tally of mountain goats underway in the Olympic region."

We sure know how to attract readers.

I did flanner, I did...

I didn't say I got 6 hits, I said I got hits that led to 6 tabloids. And one towards an italian one.

As for Google being mostly english, mind you, we also have tabloids in other languages. They just seem less interested in 'outrage'.

But I guess Englishspeaking think everything must be in english, so they don't even read correctly anymore, do they ;-)
