Help! Arrive Wengen today- need rainy day ideas

My family including 2 kids ages 9 and 11, arrives in Wengen today late. Forecast is calling for lots of rain the next few days. What are your best rainy day ideas for the BO? We have BO regional train passes.

I thought Trummelbach Falls might be an option. Any other ideas?

Many thanks!!

Hi brubenow,

Both Bern and Thun have streets covered by overhanging arcades, so you could spend some time in either place. Maybe see the castle at Thun, also (weapons of the Middle Ages . . . ).

Oh dear. I have visitors too and the weather has just turned.

- Ballenberg Open Air Museum
- Interlaken
- Thun
- Bern

Go to the info center to see if there are any events going on. They are always worth seeing.

Thank you! I didn't know about the covered streets in Thun and Bern so that's helpful.

As far as the Ballenburg open air museum- I was under the impression that it was all outside? Are there indoor parts as well?

There is a casino in Interlaken. It is near the Hotel Victoria.

The Schilthorn? You can sit inside Piz Gloria.

Ballenberg wouldn't be fun in a deluge, but with intermittent light rain (which is usually what we're talking about), it's fine. When people talk about rain being a problem in the mountains its mainly due to the fact that low clouds mean no visibility at high altitude. It's rarely the case that it's raining so hard that you wouldn't want to be out in it at all. Low clouds and light precipitation will not keep you from enjoying the open air museum.

But, if you do get a day with heavier rain, a daytrip to Bern is an excellent choice--you can see a lot while walking down those arcaded streets in the old town.

When we had rain in Grindelwald, we spent the days at Lake Thun and Brienz. Then it stopped rainig, and we had glorious views and a teip to the Jungfrau.

Thank you! We toured Trummelbach Falls in the cold rain today and it was a struggle. We have rain gear but not enough warm clothes, because when I left the US a week ago, the forecast called for low 20s in Wengen. Dramatically different now!!

Going to try Ballenberg tomorrow and cross our fingers.

It literally poured the whole day today and there may be fresh snow in your area by tomorrow. Things should be warming up as of Friday and by the weekend, there'll be plenty of sunshine again.
