Train ride from Rome to Naple & Restaurant recommendation in Naples
I'll be traveling with my kids (they are young) from Rome to Naples this summer. I have a few questions about getting to Naples and recommendations in the Naples area.
I read that taking train is the fastest way to get there.
- Is it safe in general?
- Is Frecciarossa train offered by Trenitalia from Roma Termini to Napoli Centrale the fastest train to get there?
- Is there difference in terms of safety (i.e. less pickpockets) for Standard, Premium, and Business class ticket? Or it just the leather, larger, and more comfortable seats that make the price difference.
- Is there enough space for luggage storage (i.e. 27" luggage)?
- Any concern luggage getting stolen on the train?
About Naples city itself.
- Is it safe to walk around at night? How late is consider late? Any area that I should avoid?
- Any recommendation for restaurant or pizza eatery close to the Piazza Bellini?
I'm pretty excited about visiting the city, but at the same time have read that Naples maybe "rough". Not really sure what to expect and trying to get more info about the city before the trip.

The high speed rail takes a bit over an hour and has no stops. There is luggage storage at either end of the carriage. No need to pay for business seats in that short a time. There are no pickpockets on the train as they can't get off and run away with your stuff. People don't steal suitcases.
Roma Termini only lets travellers onto the platform who have a valid ticket. It used to be the case that random people posed as 'porters' would help you get your luggage on the train and then demand a tip. That is no longer the case.
Naples is fine. If you're staying around Piazza Bellini that's a lovely, lively spot. Sorbillo is on Via Tribunali and about a five minute walk - excellent pizza.

Don't worry if the train luggage racks are full, because there is always a place to put your bags. There are casual restaurants adjacent to the hotel, which is comfortable and a good value for money. Nice breakfast.

There is always a significant difference between first classes and second classes (4 tiers of classes on those trains - two types of each) but generally first class has fewer seats per same size train car as 2nd class - more room to easily stow luggage and only in first class do you have rows with just one seat in an aisle - you can get two of these facing each other with a table in between if you like.
To me these aisle and window seats combined are priceless - to others not but I hate hassling folks to get out and vice versa - plus I can stretch my legs in the aisle and also have a window seat. IME there are often more empty seats in first class and first class comes in discounted tickets too - some report that they could bet a first class ticket at very little extra than 2nd class due to what was available at the time of booking - if not much more go first class - you also get a complimentary beverage and snack at your seat and Italian newspaper I believe and first class cars I think are usually at the front of the platform for easier boarding and de-boarding (not sure if this is always the case).

and all classes are just as safe as the others - in years of train travel I have rarely seen any thefts on these type trains - but if you put your luggage on racks by exit doors do keep an eye on them when crowds gather to get off.
Naples appeared as safe as any Italian town (Rome has major problems with street con artists IME) - I actually had a fall in Naples when I steped in a pothole in the main square by the train station and was dazed and confused (more than normal) for a few minutes - did not know where I was - I managed to sit on a bench with my bags but anyone could have come up and taken them and pickpocketed me the dazed state I was in. Well folks did come up but only to help - help me to the medical center in the station and then someone rode with me to the ER and someone who worked in the hospital was with me the whole time of X-rays of my head (showed nothing of course) - the people of Naples I met could not have been nicer - I was easy prey in that square not knowing where I was and they only came to help.
That said like in any large city watch out for pickpockets - just use common sense. Ask you hotel desk about safety and in specific at night - they usually tell you the honest story.

Re the rail - For the minimal time and distance, a premium ticket is not worth it. As for getting in and out of your seat, it's not like a row of six on an airline - and in an hour I'm not sure why you would need to get up and down frequently.
Frecciarossa trains are air conditioned - they are modern trains that use a separate rail line to the inter-city and regional trains.
Dinner time in Naples - from 6pm restaurants start to open. The locals eat late (from 9pm).

Thank you all for your responses. They are super helpful. I felt much more relieved now. I always loved Italy and was almost pickpocket before 15yrs ago in Rome. This is my first time traveling there with young kids. So, i may sounded ridiculous and too worried about the environment. I really look forward to the trip.

the point about first class was IF the cheapest discounted ticket in 2nd class was not much more than that in 1st class take the 1st class - if the difference is large yes for a short train ride no but at times the difference is just a few euros and IME for a few euros the free coffee and pastry make up the difference and you can stow luggage more easily in first class IME.
But granted on such a short ride 2nd class is fine but if only a few euros more to go first class - well that is a no-brainer IMO.

PalenQ - they don't do the buffet service between Rome and Naples - only the longer journeys.
The coffee is hideous and the 'pastry' is a packet of pretzels.
Not sure when you last spent your time in the 'first class' car but it's hardly worth spruiking it for the food.

I never said the food was great but a small perk - yes bad coffee and IME a plastic Danish pastry itIME usually is not pretzels - did not mean to srpuiking it (whatever that means - hyping I guess?) for the food but a small perk if the price difference was a few euros that would be about what it would be worth - I never said anything about buffet services.
But yes the comp food is a disgrace even to offer it so I agree with your take.
