Handeda to Narita airports, train or bus?

I need to transfer between airports, and have 5 hours, so time is not a problem. I have large suitcase and travelling solo. What is the best way to do so, the bus service or the train?

It's a long way, so don't be so assured that time is not a problem. The travel time is going to be 90 minutes to 2 hours, and that doesn't include wait time. The bus will take less time and will be a direct route, so I'd probably do that, but I think it's more expensive than the train, and you could be delayed by traffic depending on the time of day.

If you go by train, you have to change at Tokyo Station, so for that reason alone it may not be worth considering if you have a large suitcase. In the shuttle you'll only have to deal with your luggage once.

Not dealing with the suitcase at Tokyo station is a very good point. I have 5 hours, so even in traffic i'll be ok. I think the cost is worth it.

I also recommend the bus. I have taken it often, and the convenience is unbeatable. When you approach the bus departure area at Haneda, the guys there will help you get a ticket, and then they will ask you what airlines you are taking at Narita. Then, they code your suitcase accordingly, give you a color-coded claim ticket, and then they load your suitcase into the "belly" of the bus.

The buses leave quite frequently, and are moderately comfortable. They are often full, but you will be fine. I find the drive is not pretty at all, but when you arrive at the Narita terminal, they have your suitcase ready for you.

I thought I remember paying about $30 last September. It's worth it not to have to think.

Just $30 for the bus? That's a good deal, especially considering that the Narita express from Tokyo station will cost more than that and won't cover getting to Tokyo station from Haneda.

Yes, BigRuss, I just checked the website, and it's 3100 yen, or about $30. It's not a glamorous bus, but it gets the job done.

There is also a direct train between airports along the Keisei line which costs 1800 JPY and takes around 90 minutes, but it doesn't run that often.

The most convenient is the orange limousine bus that costs 3100 yen - it is a straight shot from airport to airport. If you have a lot of heavy bags, this is how you avoid a hernia and sweating enough to flood the train station.

If you want to go cheaper, there is the train. You do _not_ need to change trains at Tokyo Stn unless you are taking the Narita Express (even more pricey). The Keisei would be the way to go, but it's a bit misleading to say it's a "direct train". For some, you will need to change trains at Aoto Stn.

You really need to know your arrival information to make a good suggestion on this question
