Can anyone tell me if I can take a train directly from the Rome airport to Naples without going through the Roma Termini train station?

I live in Rome and unfortunately, no, I don't believe you can, but it would be interesting to know if anyone knows differently. I have attached the relevant websites, which you might already have.

Please keep in mind that you should give yourself around an hour and a half to get from FCO to Termini to pick up your connecting train, and that if considering if you take the Leonardo Express. In other words, make sure you have at least a 40 minute to hour window outside of travel time. Even the Leonardo Express can be late and it almost caused me to loose a connecting train to Livorno.

Yes, you have to go via Termini. I would suggest a car service/private transfer pickup at FCO with a drop off at Termini. It will cost 52 euro - marginally more than a taxi. Rome Cabs are a great service but do some searching - there are many others.

If you're taking a train from Rome to Naples, I would take a train from the airport to Rome as well. The train will leave you off nearer to the track for the train to Naples than a car service will. The airport station is a short walk from the international arrivals hall and there are trains to Rome about every 15-20 minutes. The FL1 trains (€8) go from the airport to Rome's Tiburtina station (and other stations) and the Leonardo Express (€14) goes to Termini station. From both of these stations you can get Trenitalia or Italo trains to Naples. I've never changed at Tiburtina, but I can assure you that changing trains in Termini station is straightforward and easy. The Leonardo Express train arrives at track 24 and the Frecciarossa trains to Naples usually depart from track 8 or so. There are no stairs involved.

You can buy the ticket for both trains at the same time in the airport train station. There is a travel agent across from the ticket window who sells all Trentialia tickets at the best available price. The official ticket agent, the last time I wanted a ticket, was selling tickets only as far as Rome. I don't know if this was a temporary thing or not.

Buying at airport means that you lose the opportunity to buy discounted tickets, but I don't usually buy discounted tickets for a train that I need to take after a flight, unless the price is so low that I don't mind the risk that the ticket will be worthless if I miss the train. Some people leave a gap of several hours to avoid this, but to me sitting around the train station for several hours is even worse than missing the train and needing to buy a new ticket.

Taking a car service avoids dealing with trains/tickets after a long haul flight. The car service drops you at the door of Termini and you have a two minute walk to the indicator boards which you need to stand in front of and check before you board your train - as it tells you what platform you need. Your ticket will not tell you this information.

A car service from FCO to Termini would be slow if you are doing this on a business day during the morning rush hour into Rome.
