What to do with 6 hours in Da Nang

We'll arrive in Da Nang on a Friday at 7.45 after a short flight. We leave by train at 14.15 for Hue, so we have some time to kill. Will leave luggage at the train station. The Museum of Cham Sculpture is a definite, but might only take an hour.

What would you do with the remaining time ?

Unless you have another trip planned there I would take a taxi to the Marble Mountains on arrival and spend a few hours there. You should get there before it is too crowded (and too hot). if that doesn't kill enough time maybe include the museum afterwards or head to a beach restaurant for lunch.

Crellston, that's exactly the kind of advice I was looking for.

I've checked out the Marble Mountains now and recall seeing them from a car on the way to Hoi Ann on a previous trip. Sounds like a good plan to visit them early, squeeze in the museum, then have lunch on a beach. Bliss.

Thank you so much.

The Museum of Cham Sculpture is an overrated bore.

I'd stick to what you've already decided to do. Sit on the right hand side of the train to Hue for the views. 3rd Class is best as the windows are open. Great journey providing the weather is right.

Thanks for your replies. Marble Mountains it is !

LL - we've got our tickets on the right side of the train. I suspect the windows won't open, as it's air conditioned. If you saw how DH sweats, you'd understand why I booked these ......

sartonic. Yep the a/c carriage windows won't open, and chances are the windows will be a little dirty. 3rd Class carriages have loads of fans blasting away from the ceiling, and with the through draught from the open windows they are fairly cool.

Between the carriages is open, so you can still get great views, but that's also where the smokers congregate.

Plenty on YouTube to whet your appetite. This video is good for showing the difference between 3rd and 2nd Class...

Top tips: The toilets at Da Nang train station [inside the waiting room] are fairly clean, whereas on the train who knows what the state of them could be. Plenty of medicated hand gel on public transport comes in handy too.

Lol, so funny LL. I'll make sure I "go" before boarding.
Guess we'll be hanging with the smokers if the windows are dirty.

Thanks for the YouTube link, I never think to check there.

I always travel with a gel sanitizer, but I'm really lousy at using it.
Perhaps I could clean the windows with it.....

Great video LL!

Oh, I want to go back to Vietnam so badly! I missed Hue and so many other places during our first trip.

Sartoric, am looking forward to dreaming through your TR.

Enjoy!

Hello,

As said you can go to the Marble Mountains, or simply having a Banh Xeo at Ba Duong (very famous among locals) and go to the beach (pretty clean) before leaving
