Look into their reviews. They are poorly rated and I read that people were charged 30-45 Euros for things like checking in less two hours before the flight and for Ryan air to print a boarding pass. http://www.airlinequality.com/airlin...yanair/page/2/

This site's forum archives contain lots of Ryanair discussions. It is Europe's largest carrier by passenger count; it is a short-flight specialist; it connects to no other airline; you must book on-line with its site and read all the instructions very carefully for extra charges. And, most of all, a few of its destinations may be misleading, as (for instance) its "Paris" airport is a long way from the city. Bottom line: It has tried to become more friendly, it has helped bring Europeans closer together, and its profits are growing with its popularity. Did I mention low prices if booked far in advance? They continue to be very popular mostly because of their low prices. I checked on them several months ago actually read well over 50 reviews. You have to know the rules. Those that end up paying those large fees and then complain are those that did not read or adhere to the rules. You get what you pay for, but you do get very cheap fares. You'll also have to check out the exact location of the airport and don't assume anything. They are like any other airline in that they do occasionally have delayed and cancelled flights.

I use Ryanair, not for all routes( as said check which airport they use for your destination) .
No complaints.
Yes, you have to pay extra for luggage, but whats new, most airlines charge for that now. And yes you will pay for things like seat reservations. I dont bother with the extras, the fkights are so short, i do always pre paay to check a bag.
Flights are still cheap even with add ons.

Although European low-cost airlines do fly between capital cities, much of their network is between regional centres. These are ideal for people who prefer to use an airport close to their home, or to their destination. It probably isn't something that is appropriate for many international travellers.
We have used easyJet many times, but recently used Ryanair for the first time. We flew from Bristol, U.K. to Alicante in Spain and return. The Ryanair outward flight times suited us better, while the return flight was timed better with easyJet. We prefer to check our bags and book seats in advance. The result was that the total flight costs in each direction were virtually identical. Ryanair had cheaper flights, but higher add-ons.
The Ryanair (Boeing 737) was a little more spartan, and had a Spanish crew. Easyjet use Airbus planes and there was a British crew on their way back to Bristol. On both flights you pay for any refreshments you have. The differences were certainly not great enough to make you choose one over the other.
We would certainly never consider travelling 100 miles to a major airport in order to use an airline like BA, just because the service might be better.

Why would you do that, as they have had free seating allocation for about two years now? They are assigned randomly when checking in online.

Maybe for you they are short, but some Ryanair flights are up to 5 hours long. And paying for baggage is an extra, so you are bothering with the extras.

Yes it is true that some people think it is ok to arrive at the airport without having first checked in online and printed their BPs(or download their BP to the Ryanair app.) Those same people receive emails reminding them to check-in but they either ignore the contents or don't bother reading them.

Answered your own question ... that's exactly why I would pay for the seat.
Also, when traveling many people (such as I) not only have no access to a printer but even email can be limited. (And I don't carry a phone with me internationally.)

You do not need access to a printer to send your boarding pass to an app. You can check in up to 7 days before departure, so often I check in for both flights at the same time. Too bad you don't carry a phone with you internationally. Without one, you will get no info on delays or flight cancellations and how to rebook if something goes wrong with the Ryanair (or Easyjet) flight whilst you are at the airport. I always carry one and use free wifi in places where I don't want to incur roaming charges.

5 hours is not that long of a flight.. takes me 12 to get to Europe.. but I personally have only taken flights around Europe of 1-3 hours.. which to me is a puddle jump.
Rome to Paris-1.5 hours
Barcelona to Paris-1.5 hours
Dublin to Barcelona-2.5
London to Mykonos- 3.5 hours( this is the longest I have ever booked)
Some folks feel they MUST sit by their travel partner for a flight of an hour or two.. fine.. but they will have to pay for that..
And no one "needs" food for those short of flights ( if so , pack a snack) because yes.. there is no free food or drinks on the cheapo airlines.
Cheap is a relative term .. I can pay almost 200 dollars to fly 20 minutes here at home( and I have to pay 25 dollars for my bag.. grr) .. so to me to pay less then that to fly for a few hours seems super cheap, however I suppose if one lives in Europe they can see that completely differently, they don't have to pay the sort of fares we are used to in Canada.

Last fall I flew Kraków to Rome, inexpensive, on time and the only non-stop on this route. I had feared flying RyanAir but it was fine. Seats don't recline and aren't very comfortable but they aren't long naul flights. Very organized and send emails detailing their extra charges which are often optional ones.

Unlike in some countries, Ryanair expect you to be an adult and keep to your side of the contract.
So if they expect you to checkin on line and print off your boarding card then they expect you to checkin on line and print off your boarding card and not turn up at the airport and sulk because you can't be bothered to be an adult.

Just landed with Ryanair.
Don't ask me about the flight, I slept through it all. Both flights were on time on arrival, bothe crews were nice (not always the case). For the return they started boarding before the aircraft landed, so we had to way 15 min the stairs. Quite confortable...
Ryanair is perfect for me : I can read, so I know what is free and what isn't. Like some here I add what I accept to pay on top and I compare with other alternatives.
And yes, I book the retunr flight with a paying seat : I don't want to be bothered having to confirm online during the trip if longer than 7 days. I know I pay 6 € for that - so I have to save it by drinking one beer less. (not this time, I flew in on tuesday, back today).
