You need unexpired government issued photo ID.

I would just bring a bottle of vodka to bribe the agent checking in luggage.

Maybe not a troll. A permanent resident is supposed to ALWAYS carry their green card (it says so on the card). Passport is only needed if leaving/re-entering the country unless it is your only government issued photo ID (don't green cards have photos these days?).

A lot of people don't even know what the word troll means, it appears. So someone asks a question you want to belittle and mock, so the troops must come out and call him or her a troll to make fun of them and make themselves feel superior. Great.

It's probalby not that dumb a question for a foreigner within a country who wants to know if they should carry their passport when traveling around the US. I would say it's a good idea to do so.

Christina -- all three registered, posted their passport questions, and disappeared . . .

I think Janis is right. Every green card holder I've ever known is well aware that they must keep it with them at all times.

The OP wasn't asking about his green card.

OP did indeed ask about the green card. Valid question, questionable OP.

The OP said "passport or just my green card" meaning did he have to take his passport AS WELL AS his green card.
