Where to have Easter Sunday lunch in Rome?
Good morning
Bikerscott and I will be spending Easter in Rome (trip report to come this time!)
Does anyone have a suggestion for a nice leisurely Easter Sunday lunch? We would prefer it to be out of the main tourist areas, so don't mind taking a taxi or tram. We are staying in Trastevere. Price isn't really an issue although under €50 a person would be great.

Ristorante Consolini is great for special nights out, special atmosphere no matter which room they put you in, very good food, and very reasonable considering it is a white tablecloth type of place. I do suggest you make a reservation as soon as possible as this is a big day for restaurants in Rome, and Italy overall. The weather has been VERY mild here for winter, so hopefully spring is right around the corner. If that is the case, ask for a table on their terrace (they have several terraces). I think that restaurant will be well over €50 per person, maybe double if you include wine. It also doesn't get great reviews on Italian restaurant review sites. It seems to coast on the strength of its white tablecloths... It's in Testaccio, not exactly a bucolic spot.
I'm afraid I'm not much help, but I go to Rome for anything but the restaurants.
If you would be interested in seafood, you might want to go to Ostia Lido, or Fiumicino town.
I've spent some time on the Janiculum Hill, where my daughter was at the American Academy for a month, while I babysat the granddaughter (mostly at home in Le Marche, but I brought her to Rome on the weekends to see her mother. There was a restaurant there that intrigued us, a sort of rustic restaurant that often had limousines outside. The Russian Embassy was nearby, so we deduced that it was popular either with the Russians, or with the Mafia. It's called Carpe Diem sul Gianicolo. (There are other "Carpe Diem" restaurants in Rome, so you need the "sul Gianicolo".) It has pretty good reviews, better than Consolini. We kept saying we'd go there one night, but there was a little hole in the wall restaurant around the corner with excellent amatriciana, and we kept going back there instead.
Nearby, you could walk to the top of the Gianicolo, where there's a park and fantastic views over the city. The Acqua Paola, one of Rome's most beautiful fountains, supposedly the inspiration for Trevi Fountain, is very near the restaurant. We used to walk down to Trastevere from there to get ice cream, but in the other direction, it's a pretty steep climb.

My mom and I had 3 excellent meals at Flavio al Velavevodetto in the Testaccio neighborhood last Ocotober. Two dinners and one Sunday lunch. It is definitely more trattoria than ristorante.
The cacio e pepe and carbonarra were excellent, the meats and vegetable dishes were delicious too. And the tiramisu was the best I've ever had anywhere. There were lots of families/large groups dining at Sunday lunch and I had reservations for all 3 meals here, so would definitely recommend a reservation, not sure if they will be open on Easter Sunday.
It appeared to be lots of Italians dining here, but Flavio has been reviewed in the New York Times and on a lot of blogs, so it appears to be on the "tourist radar", but don't let that deter you. We found the food and service to be excellent. Good wine options too, no printed wine list, they have a large section of wall with shelves holding the wines they have available to choose from.
I still haven't written a trip report from my October trip, but dining at Flavio was definitely a high point!

I forgot to mention, (I'm getting forgetful in my advancing years! LOL!) if the "Flavio" ravioli (his signature dish) is on the menu, you will not be sorry if you order it. It's fantastic, with ricotta and mint. Mom and I shared an order and it was more than enough....the pasta portions (really, all the dishes) are extremely generous!

With a bit of luck you may find somewhere doing artichokes - they are in season right now and should still be around at Easter in a few weeks time.
