These 5 temples are exempted which means they will be more crowded now:
Shwesandaw – the main tourist favorite – Pyathard Gyi, South Gunni, North Gunni and Thitsaw Wati.

Apparently this all kicked off when locals protested, quite rightly, as a French tour Group had a party/drinks/dance within the walls of the pagoda.
Can you imagine if a group of foreign tourist did the same in the quad of a Catholic Cathedral?

WE were in Mali a few years ago and foreigners could no longer go into the incredible mud mosque at Djenne. Apparently a European photographer hosted a completely inappropriate photo shoot and ruined it for all subsequent visitors.

We were there 2 weeks ago. We went to watch the sunset but didn't stay because the situation was not safe. Very crowded and yes lots of drinking, smoking and drugs seen. Also many of he tourists ignoring the signs not to be wearing shorts and spaghetti strap tops.very disrespectful for a religious site. We are not prudes but one should behave in another country.
