Street numbering conventions in Garmisch-Partenkirchen
Short of it:
Please help me figure out how to pinpoint a street address in Gapa by explaining the prevailing method of assigning numbers, e.g. east to west on both sides of street with odds on north and evens on south, everything radiates outwards from the Bahnhof, etc.

I sure hope you can help me with my over-planning of our upcoming trip to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. We are very excited to follow through on our long-held thought that Gapa will be the perfect place to take our 7 year-old granddaughters for their first trip to Europe. I've given countless others on this site my suggestion that it's a perfect place for children and now we're going to see for ourselves.
I have the thought that I'd best be very prepared for this trip since dithering with children with hungry stomachs could spell disaster. Accordingly I've developed a list of restaurants that look good for us but need to be certain in advance of exactly (more or less) where they are. None of the maps I have include street numbers and some streets are quite long. It just wouldn't do to have to walk the full length of say Saint Martin Strasse to find a place when folks want to eat "now!"
Internet searches have proven fruitless to find street numbering conventions for the two towns, so I'm hoping that you local experts can enlighten me. What are the "rules" to help me estimate where on a map to pinpoint an address?

Yes, Doug, that's exactly what I want. I'm not especially tech savvy, though. Can you point me to the site that will show me how to put multiple addresses onto a single map, please? Thank you.

Yup. Google maps.
An easy, although very inelegant way, to put all of the points on a map is to get directions from your lodging to restaurant A, then to restaurant B, and so forth. All of the points will be there.

Ah, Google maps has something called My maps where you can make your own map.

Street numbering is Garmisch is like in most German cities:
The lots are continuously numbered from the beginning of the street to the end. The left side of the street has the odd numbers: 1, 3, 5.., the right side the even numbers: 2, 4, 6...
The numbering is continuous, not regarding blocks.
Google maps show the address precisely.

Where is your hotel? I can pinpoint you to our favs. Great take out in some grocery store deli's also. You will see people in lines at butcher shops for daily specials. Partenkirchen has some good traditional places to eat and the one with the little boys slap dancing is fun. You sit at big tables with others. Frandorfers or something close like that.

Oh gosh, I've never tried to figure it out -- just like in the US, yes, one side of the street is odd numbers and the other side is even. But I don't know which end of the street would have the smaller numbers (as in Paris, where closer to the Seine is smaller numbers).
One good thing to do is to find the cross-street that your restaurant is near. Or the nearest bus stop. That will help you pin-point its location.
And, yes, I use MyMaps a lot to save destinations I want to save. Then you can use the MyMaps app on your smartphone or tablet to call up your maps. You can use "layers" to keep things organized (one layer might be a day of sight-seeing with nearby restaurants, or you could put all restaurants on one layer and all sights on another layer).
If you let us know which restaurants you're thinking of, of course I and these helpful others will help you locate them exactly.

Thank to you all. I'll be working through all of this and will undoubtedly be back for more guidance. One thing is certain, we will have fun, regardless of how I construct maps from this advice. Ordinarily I'd just map out each restaurant from our hotel but this time what I'd like to do, is see them all together and have them available when I'm in an area and need to find something nearby--sort of like a personal version of the maps of restaurants and hotels you can/or used to be able to get in printed guidebooks.
I'm so excited. The weather reports say we'll have snow when we're there. The granddaughters are ecstatic--and so am I!!

flpab, Thanks for the offer of suggestions for restaurants, etc. We are staying at Hotel Edelweiss on Martinwinkelstrasse. Our kids are staying at Zugspitze Hotel on Klammstrasse. We are already booked at Faundorfer which we recall fondly from a previous trip and can't wait to return, especially with the 7 year old twins. We have several other places reserved but I have a list of about a dozen places that sound good from my research that I'd like to pinpoint for lunches on the go, etc.
If you have any suggestions for deli places for take out especially near the Zugspitze hotel where the kids will be staying, that would be very helpful. I'm thinking they may be too tired to dine out some evenings and some take out would be a very good alternative.
We'd also appreciate any recs for restaurants you especially enjoyed anywhere in the main areas of the towns, especially Garmisch since we're on that end of things (a bit too bad, because I love Ludwigstrasse and all the fun places there.)

Here are some hints to help you locate those restaurants:
Nordsee -- unfortunately has moved somewhere. I just saw their shop is empty now and haven't found where/if they have a new one.
Asia World -- a local favorite. It's always busy. It sits on a prominent corner at the intersection of Chamonixstrasse and Bahnhofstrasse.
Koch's is a bit hidden, located on Bankgasse, a tiny little street or alleyway that runs parallel to the pedestrian path (Am Kurpark).
Sorry, I don't know what you mean by Cafe Bar Berge.
The Loisachstuben is just off the Am Kurpark on the Fürstenstrasse, again about halfway down the Am Kurpark. Coming from the Tourist Information office, you turn right on the first street after seeing the Tchibo.
Pane e Vino is also off the Am Kurpark on Druckergasse. The Druckergasse is the second street on the right coming from Tchibo (first street on the left coming from Mohrenplatz).
The El Greco is on the main street in town, Bahnhofstasse, just about one or two blocks from the train station going in the direction of Partenkirchen.
The Colosseo is on Klammstrasse, on the 2d floor above the Feneberg grocery store. It's between Höllentalstrasse and the pedestrian path.
Zum Rassen is in Partenkirchen on the Ludwigstrasse at the corner of Badgasse (Badgasse is a tiny alleyway).
Zum Wildschutz is located just off the pedestrian path in Garmisch, right at about the center. Go to the Mohrenplatz, and on one side you'll see the flowery beer garden and restaurant Mohrenplatz, and on the other side you'll see Zum Wildschutz.
The Flößerstube is also located on the tiny street Bankgasse at the intersection of Schmiedstrasse.
The Husar is located on Fürstenstrasse at the intersection of Lazarettstrasse.
The Alpenhof is on the pedestrian path in Garmisch, Am Kurpark, not far from its beginning at the Tourist Information office. It is right next to the big, upscale Tracht clothing store Grasegger.
Again, I recommend you map these on MyMaps from google maps.

Wow swandav you are a treasure. So much work--and I truly appreciate it. I'm off to learn MyMaps so I can turn all this data into a map. Bad link, I can not get the correct address to come up for the indoor mall. Not hard to find though and more fast food options. I always go to the kitchen store in here for made in Germany cookie cutters.
