1,5 days Kuala Lumpur itinerary

Hi together,

our asia trip in spring 2016 is getting closer. As we have a quite ambitious agenda (KUL, SIN, REP, HKG) I am currently planning the trip as detailed as possible.

I came up with an itinerary for our 1,5 days in Kuala Lumpur and would highly appreciate your feedback on it. I am especially unsure about the right mode of transport in KL (rapid KL vs. cab vs. Hop-on-hop-off bus vs. GO KL bus). My itinerary currently relies on rapid KL, but I am not sure if my planned distances are really walkable.

The itinerary would be as follows (chronological order)

Day 0
Arrival by international flight from Europe in KL at 5pm - nothing planned for rest of day.

Day 1

1) KLCC
Transport: Our Hotel is directly located at KLCC station.
What to see:
Petronas Twin Towers
KLCC Park

2) Chinatown & Little India
Transport: rapid KL from KLCC station to Masjid Jamek station:
What to see:
Masjid Jamek
Masjid India
Merdeka Square
Sultan-Abdul-Samad-Building
Central Market & Kasturi Walk
See-Yeoh Temple
Petaling Street
Sri-Mahamariamman Temple

3) Lake Gardens
Transport: rapid KL Pasar Seni to KL Sentral
What to see:
Perdana Botanical Garden
KL Bird Park
KL Butterfly Park
Masjid Negara

4) Bukit Nanas
Transport: rapid KL Pasar Seni to Dang Wangi
What to see:
Bukit Nanas
Menara KL Tower

5) By foot back to KLCC

Day 2:

1) Batu Caves
Transport: rapid KL from KLCC to KL Sentral, KTM Komuter from KL Sentral to Batu Caves
What to see:
Batu Caves (4hours planned in total, including transport from/to KLCC)

2) At 3:30 pm Aeroline bus from KL to Singapore (departs near KLCC).

What do you think of my itinerary? Is it doable? Did I miss something?

Highly appreciate your feedback.

Thanks

I don't think your plans are possible, at least not unless you are an Olympic sprinter! There is way too much in there to make it enjoyable in the time you have available. Walking in KL always seems to take a lot longer than you would expect.

We tried walking from central market to the Islamic Arts Museum which looked quite easy according to the map - not so! It took much longer than we could have imagined in excruciating heat and we gave up completely on the bird park.
KL the public transport system in KL is quite extensive but sadly the various systems don't always point up sensibly making.

Hard to be specific, not knowing your interests but I would give up on #4 completely and possibly #3 as well.

4 hours should provide plent of time to see Batu caves and get back for your bus.

For your first night, I would suggest dumping your bags and heading for the Skybar at Traders Hotel, you make even make it for sunset if you are lucky. We went there with internetwiz and husband a while ago. The best views of the patron as towers of anywhere AND they were offering free drinks for ladies (although the ladies somehow managed to persuade the barman to give us all free drinks!)

We were in KL for four days and saw less than this! I agree with crellston's assessment of the public transport, we also spent quite a bit of time walking to the Islamic Art Museum and the National Mosque.

The museum and the mosque could easily take up an afternoon.

I'd suggest picking a plan for the day and then adding Little India or Chinatown for dinner.

Thanks for your hints.

As for the itinerary described above I meanwhile did a little bit more research and decided to cancel Bukit Nanas and KL Tower.

So it will be down to three main locations on Day 1:
1) KLCC
2) Chinatown and Little India
3) Lake Gardens.

I think this should be easily manageable in one day. Especially considering that we do not want to go up on Petronas Towers, meaning we are also saving time there.

I also found out that there is a quite good overhead walkway from Pasar Seni to the old KL station and onwards to Masjid Negara taking about 15 to 20 minutes which seems quite doable. We do not want to visit the Islamic Arts Museum.

The only thing I am not sure is what to see in Lake Gardens and how to get around. I have read something about a tram connecting the attractions in the Lake Gardens? Any hints on this area? What do we really need to see?

Thanks for any help.

There is no trams connecting to Lake Garden. You need to take a taxi there, my suggestion you could do KL Bird Park just nearby Lake Garden if you wanted to.
