Icebergs Crash Into Paris...

http://www.dailysabah.com/world/2015...climate-change

An Icelandic artist has brought some icebergs from Greenland to Paris, to make a point during the Cimate Change Conference (or whatever the call it) - If in Paris hurry over to the Pantheon to see them slowly melting - much like those in Greenland!

I wonder how long they will take to melt - in Paris that is not Greenland though the latter may melt before those in Paris do?

But with all that hot air coming from the conference (and no real action)...

"or whatever you call it" point well taken!

The density and purity of the "iceberg" will determine its melt rate, depending on the ambient temperature. It's simple science, hopefully even something a Republican might understand.

PalenQ - you could certainly get a job writing inflammatory headlines for The Guardian...

Though it's nice of you to bring attention to an art installation illustrating the effect of greenhouse gases on the polar ice cap, you have not spoken the truth, since no icebergs have crashed in Paris. There are just some lumps of ice that are slowly melting on the pavement.

I don't know why you have to try to get everybody so excited about mundane stuff all the time.

Hadn't heard of that, I thought this was just an interesting tidbit. I presumed there was no agenda by the "whatever you call it", just that he didn't know the official name of the conference. I guess I'm missing what the volumes that tells are.

I do think Palenq maybe has a talent as an ad copywriter or writing headlines for the NY Post or something. I didn't think the headline was alarming at all, though, just curious, so I guess that was the goal, to get you to read the info.

My favorite NY Post headline was this one (not the URL, but the actual article), my French friends thought it was really funny:

Heard that they will organize a gathering a bunch of old hairy guys on the iceberg.

Something about saving the 'white beards'.

Man or woman - Fodorgarchs can be tough!

That's only the tip of the iceberg in front of the Pantheon - the berg extends under all of Paris it seems.

I was thinking of seeing this - but the irony just struck me. Who moves 80 tons of ice from Greenland to make a point about global warming? How much did the shipping and trucking of this stuff further contribute to the problem?

I love this subject, all these people flying around the world, driving cars to get about and yet.....

Now global warming, what causes that?

I think Prince Charles makes some salient points when he connects gas guzzling vehicles to climate change to global terrorism.

Think on.

This is about 1/3rd about the problem, the part everybody sees and recognizes (ex cept some nice guys who theer is no connection - did I hear GW Bush ? )

Another part is what buy everyday - gets moved by trucks at no cost (or nearly) strawberries from South Africa in winter, Italian water in France and German water in Italy, goods manufactured in China and shipped to Europe for 1000$ per container.

Another part is energy : we burn 'some' coal, gas, fuel to produce energy (and we want to increase since we don't want nucleat anymore) so that we can have 25 C in winter and airconditioned in summer, even when the doors of the stores are open.

And I do forget quite a lot.

You forgot what a recent documentary claimed was the largest contributor to greenhouse gases - raising animals for meat- bovines especially bloviate large amounts of methane and large swaths of rain forests and forests have been cleared to raise beef cattle.

One things you can do right now to help is stop eating meat - especially beef products.

Yup, meat is not good for the climate.

We should put an ecology cost on everything, then we'd
regulate.
Nothing gets regulated in our world unless there is a cost associated.

If meat were twice as expensive, I'd eat twice less.

What about poultry ? got a great chicken waiting for me.

poultry is bad like all meat because of the land appropriated to raise feed for the poultry - but I do not think they belch so much methane or each nearly as much grain.

If you were really interested in what is happening to the planet, and what man is responsible for, you should read this book:
"The Sixth Extinction" by Elisabeth Kolbert.

It will shut you up once and for all.
