Tips on Traveling to BVI

I have planned a honeymoon in the BVI for May 2016 - 7 nights at Rosewood Little Dix Bay following by 2 nights at a private rental on Tortola. Currently, I am planning on flying to San Juan, PR and then traveling on to Virgin Gorda. Seaborne and Cape Air offer flights from SJU to Tortola, but they seem very expensive for a 45 minute flight. If I fly into Tortola, I would then have to catch another ferry to Little Dix Bay. On the way back, I would be flying out of Tortola.

Does anyone have any experience with Air Sunshine? The flight times work well and the price is more attractive. Also, Air Sunshine will fly into Virgin Gorda. The reviews seems mixed, at best. Also, does anyone have experience flying into St. Thomas and then taking a ferry to the BVI? Another option would be to catch an "off peak" flight back to/from San Juan (less expensive) and spend some time in San Juan.

In conclusion, I am looking for affordable travel options so that I can spend on dinners and activities. Any help you have is much appreciated. Thanks!

You have to define what "affordable" means to you and then decide whether the time you might save flying into VG is worth any extra cost vs. taking the ferry. ONLY YOU can decide what's right for you.

Air Sunshine has been in business for quite a number of years. We've flown them on numerous occasions without any may problems. Likewise, we've flown on Seaborne without encountering any delays. The thing is both airlines are typical Caribbean commuter airlines and have their good days and bad days.

Personally,I'd much prefer to fly from SJU or STT directly into VG rather than combining flights and ferries. My time is valuable to me so I find it worth the extra cost to fly if it gets me to my destination quicker.

RoamsAround,

Thank you for the advice. It would actually cost me more to fly Seaborne or Cape Air into Tortola, and then I would have to pay again to take a water taxi into VG. If Air Sunshine is as dependable as the other airlines, gets me to VG quicker, and is less expensive, then it is the obvious choice.

I asked as I read some pretty harsh reviews on Air Sunshine. At the same time, I read some positive reviews. Have you encountered any problems in the past by faxing in a reservation form with your credit card information?

Appreciate the help. Really looking forward to the trip. As I said earlier, we will be spending 7 nights at Little Dix Bay and then 2 nights in Cane Garden Bay on Tortola.

"Have you encountered any problems in the past by faxing in a reservation form with your credit card information?" - That's common practice with many of the Caribbean Commuter airlines. If you don't want to do it, you don't get to make reservations to fly with that particular airline.

Hint, pack light, Air Sunshine flies small planes, luggage space is limited.

Unrelated to the flights buy, OP: since LDB is closing May 1st for renovations, what did you decide to do? We also had a trip booked for 7 days since October and we are now staying at PI. Just curious as to what others decided to do.
