Jerez, Arcos, Vejer de la frontera

Hi, My husband and I are going to do a road trip in Spain in December/January.We have been there before so have most of our trip planned but need some advice. Where is best to situate ourselves for a few days: Jerez de la frontera, Arcos de la frontera or Vejer de la frontera? We like to do day trips out and wonder around where we stay in the evening, maybe shop, stop for a glass of wine and people watch. We have planned 3 nights in Cadiz and a few in Seville.

Thanks for any help!

Jerez de la Frontera would be your best bast. It has a great central location with great rail service. It also has a number of excellent restaurants.

A clear vote for Jerez. It is a real town and has the wineries which are fun to visit. Enough to spend an evening in a bodega and walk back into the hotel.

Arcos and Vejer are more like villages. They are picturesque because their are built in Islamic style - labyrinths of courtyard-oriented houses which keep privacy. It is quite difficult to visit without a guide because in order to see something you have to walk into the houses. So, these white towns make picture-postcard photo motives but are not exactly the places where you would like to stay overnight.

Actually, Vejer is nice, but limiting for touring. It also makes a decent summer destination for a few days then during the winter.

Jerez is a cradle of flamenco culture, and flamenco is very much alive and kicking here. Experience the real deal with the locals in Paña Flamenca La Buleria: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pe%C3...44744715561221

or see a performance in for example Puro Arte Flamenco: http://www.puroarteflamencojerez.com/

The Barrio de Santiago in Jerez is the most flamenco neighbourhood in all of Spain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVf7gkKngM4

Real deal concerts almost every night, the program is updated here: http://www.guiaflama.com/flamenco-en-cadiz/
