Hi THURSDAYSD,
Thanks for the info. I will miss it too, but I am always interested in how Britain memorializes its past experiences in WWI and WWII.
I just finished watching THE IMITATION GAME about the code breakers of Bletchley Park during WWII.
Hope your trip is going well....

Hi LTD, thanks for asking. Weather in England was not good and I caught a nasty virus. Lasted through Portsmouth and Strasbourg (when I got off the plane in Strasbourg I was practically deaf!) but have arrived in Nancy and I think (fingers crossed) it's clearing up. Both UK clinic and French doctor said two weeks.... Reminded me I always spent much of an English winter sick.
BTW, visited National Museum of Computing at Bletchley while I was in England and learned about Colossus. Very interesting.

The spitfires flew over Scunthorpe last month. It was an emotional experience for those old enough to remember the Battle of Britain. The sound of the engines is unmistakable. Even five year old grandson was impressed.

My mom is a BOB survivor, and last year my husband and I contemplated taking her to England for the 75th anniversary events. We were thinking of a swank London hotel that my 93 y.o. mother would really enjoy, and last September I made inquiries about availability and rates, assuming this was going to be a Very Big Event. The reservations person didn't understand why I was planning so far in advance. "Is it Fashion Week?", she asked. I just about cried...
My mom decided she didn't want to go. "I've seen dogfights, and I've been bombed. I don't need to be there to celebrate." She's always been rather plucky.
