Chip & Pin cards

It's had several chip cards for a couple of years but all their cards are not "true" chip and pin cards. They are chip and signature preferred with pin capabilities. At point of sales terminals, they will default to signatures. At kiosks, the pin will function. Call them whatever you want, though. If it makes you happy (no offense meant) you can call the cards chip and pin.

Question about these cards. You say that some cards chip and signature preferred with pin capabilities and they default to signature. what happens with these cards at unmanned stations such as tollbooths or unmanned gas stations?

In general, the cards issued by Barclays Bank USA will function with a pin at unpersonneled kiosks and petrol stations and the like. But at point of sale terminals, it will, in almost all cases, function as chip and signature. Again I'm not looking to pick an argument or be disrespectful and people are welcome to call it a chip and pin card but by the definition most have accepted, it is what their very own literature calls it i.e. a chip and signature card with pin capabilities. But to a large degree, it really doesn't matter any more because as of 01 July 2015, mc and visa regs prohibit unpersonneled kiosks and the like from rejecting cards for lack of a pin; they are required to process all transactions with no card verification method although I am sure there are some places where these regs are ignored.

This is good to know. It may take a while, but eventually this will all be a non issue.
