Driving Dubrovnik to Split via Hvar

Google maps gave me a possible route of driving from Dubrovnik to Drvenik (2 hours), then taking the car ferry to Sucuraj on Havar (37 minutes), driving to Stari Grad (80 minutes), then the ferry to Split (2 hours). Of course these are no stopping driving times.

I would probably be doing this in September of 2016 -- just investigating possibilities now.

Withe the following ferry schedule and prices this seems like a way to get to see some of the islands and coast line if willing to get an early start and take most of the day. I wonder if anyone has done this or has any thoughts -- pro, con, or alternatives.

Drvenik to Sucuraj ferries at 9:00, 10:30, 12:00, 13:45 16 KN/person, 108/186 smaller/larger car

Stari Grad to Split 11:30, 14:00, 17:30, 20:00 47KN/person 318/588 smaller/larger car

I would be driving a "class C" type rental car, something similar to a VW Golf or so. I'd think this would fit the "smaller" category.

Thanks

The online tickets don't guarantee a specific boat. Do you think this would be a problem this time of the year. How long before departure must I be in line to board the ferry that time of the year?

I would not want to do this unless you spend at least one night on Hvar Island. Or two.

Boarding and de-boarding ferries isn't exactly my idea of a relaxing day, and the roads are windy and in Hvar, narrow. You'll need to be on your guard, not looking out at the scenery.

The first couple of weeks and even into the latter part are still high season. I would be at the ferry at least an hour ahead of time. An alternative would be to drive directly to Split and spend a night or two, and go to Hvar on the catamaran as a day trip (this would save you money too.)

I typically find much more accurate times with viamichelin.com than with google maps, so before you make a decision, check what it says. Also happy.com

Like rialtogrl, I would not want to do that in a single day.

And honestly, I would prefer to use public transportation for this route: the scenery in parts is spectular, and I don't like catching only glimpses because I'm trying to watch the road. Take a bus from Dubrovnik to Split and then, as rialtogrl suggested, use the catamaran for a day trip (or longer).
