Thinking about my next trip...I must be crazy!
I've been back from a long and demanding trip for one week. I'm still tired and very broke, and I haven't finished my trip report, but I'm already daydreaming about another trip. Not a destination, but various odds and ends...how long shall I stay? What kind of electronics shall I buy so that I don't have to hunt for cyber cafes? I'm still broke . How can I pay for another trip?

Peg--We're always planning another trip before we get back.
And regarding electronics, I'd recommend an ipad (mini or otherwise). I love mine--it's small enough to tote around (I have a mini) and is perfect for email, last minute checking of websites etc.

I am always planning also.
Half the fun is in planning even if I do not go.!

I try to have my next but one trip planned before I go, but we seem to have dropped that pleasant habit recently.
An i-pad of some description would be a great addition to your travel kit, peg.
Percy - I too have various half-planned [some might say half-baked] trips in my head.

Like socialworker said, we have to dream and it is free.
I keep wondering where should I go next and I also just got back 2 1/2 weeks ago.
So much to see.....so little time, energy and money.
Well money is not really an issue now and because of that the desire is reduced. !!

Glad to see I'm not alone in this! I'm just not happy if I'm not planning my next trip. DH usually demurs at first, but agrees in enough time to book tickets and hotels.
Next year once the last fledgling goes off to college, the sky's the limit!

I too am thinking of my next trip. Maybe the Baltics, maybe Yorkshire and the Peaks district. More of Wales?
The Scottish Highlands and islands? Berlin and the former east Germany?
But that issue of money keeps creeping up!

I leave tomorrow, but still have thoughts about where next year. Maybe I will finally, finally make it to Central Asia!
I just invested in/treated myself to, new electronics. I replaced my aging iPad 2 with an iPad Air 2. I'm still not happy with Apple, but it is just SO light, it feels like I'm not holding anything. Then I replaced my even older LG Android phone with a Samsung Galaxy S5. Not the latest model, but I wanted to be able to replace the battery if necessary. It is so much easier to use than the old phone! I can talk to it, too.

Pesky that, isn't it, Peg, how to pay for the next one.
Our next trip is this September, and the mulling process for next year has already begun, Scotland, Croatia and Slovenia, Spain, Wales, etc, etc.
I love my iPad air, it's pretty much surgically attached to me by now.

I always have a trip or 3 swirling around in my head. Planning is as much fun as the actual trip. I have a Kindle which has served me well on my travels. By the way, I'm also from Spokane and travel solo.

Just spent 2 weeks in Denmark, booking a hotel the day before from the last one. Basically my tech is a Nokia dumb-phone over 10 years old (on a PAYG contract so no cost there). We either used the TI free booking computers, used the hotel/B&B guides and then (takes a breath) phoned them, or the free PCs in the hotels to book them.
Cyber cafes (are there any left?) just sound expensive while Ipads must cost a lot compared to a holiday.

My husband & I decided to forego a big trip this year in order to do some long overdue things in the house. Such is life! But now that we have just one more project to complete, we are beginning to look ahead & think about possible itineraries for 2016!
One idea is a return trip to Italy with possible stops in Milan, Bologna, somewhere in Umbria & in the Marche.
I agree that planning a trip is as fun as going on one!

I figure I probably kept my last iPad for four years, and used it daily, so if you amortize the cost it wasn't expensive. Traded it in against the new one, too. Plus, I blog and write TRs, much easier with the iPad. Of course it's not essential but it makes handling a long trip simpler plus I count it as entertainment.

irishface - I favour the former DDR of the options you give - we're been 3 times in the last 4 years or so and loved it every time. not too expensive and loads of interesting things to see and do - for example in Weimar you can be seeing Goethe's summer house one minute, and the next walking round the town museum with its exhibits about the Weimar Republic and Germany before re-unification. Then there are Leipzig, Dresden, Halle, Erfurt - all fascinating places in their own right - the Harz mountains, loads of castles, The Wartburg where Luther hid for a while, etc. etc.

I'm leaving in 3 weeks for Iceland/Paris and I'm already planning in my head a fall 2016 driving tour of Normandy! So, you are not alone!
I take my mini ipad on trips and as outwest stated, I also use it to check emails and websites while traveling. Very handy and small enough to not be an inconvenience.

Seems we all have at least one or two things in common....daydreaming...planning, planning, planning and trip reports. I always tell hubs don't talk to me about next trip until I get this years trip report done. Any that have ever read my reports know I am one very tardy trip report writer! I cheat by getting it started so I can at least look in on what he is doing but I cannot get involved until the last trip documentation is Done!! LOL. And I can tell you we go back to those trip reports/photo albums on a regular basis for a multitude of reasons.
He is already thinking about next year and we haven't even left on this years adventure. Such is the sheer joy of travel for sure
