Travel in Ireland in July 2015
My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Ireland this July. We know this is not the optimum time of the year due to heavy tourism, but this is when we can go. Of course we are in full romantic idealism mode and would love to have a loose itinerary with only a few solid bookings, but don't want the whole trip to be about finding last minute accommodations. We're planning on starting in Dublin and renting a car. We will want to spend approximately $150 per night. Is this doable or a potential nightmare?
We've both traveled extensively throughout our lives and can deal with unexpected situations, but too many travel hassles will make me very cranky and not in the Irish spirit.

I agree that booking the first night as t2p suggests in his linked post is a good idea. We flew into Dublin last May from Bordeaux and were able to book the Conrad Hilton for $150/night via booking.com but we booked super early-like January and I noticed it went up to over $230/night as we got closer. It was a super nice room and property BTW.
In general, with the larger chain type hotels this seems to be true whereas I feel like the smaller properties don't move their prices as much-they tend to have a seasonal rate, summer, spring, etc.
I can't help on how easy it will be to find things during July since we were there early May, but I will say that we were in France last July and had to book something unexpectedly for a week at the last minute (because the apt. we were in was infested by bugs!) and I was able to get a fairly decent selection of last minute places because people would rather book something at a reduced rate than have it sit empty. But I really haven't ventured much outside of Dublin so don't if the situation will be similar there.

Ireland does get busy July and August but if you just want a clean bed and good breakfast then there are lots of options. Always find out if there is a festival or event on potential dates if there is a festival in a key location, the villages 10 miles down the road would still have possibilities.
I suggest finding some phone numbers before you arrive for phoning ahead after breakfast rather than getting somewhere and starting to look.
