my itinerary for norway and denmark
Hello Fellow travelers,
Hope you all are doing great and enjoying travelling around.
I want your assistance in planning a forthcoming trip for me and my family. My family comprises of me my wife and a 3 yr old baby and we plan to spend 10 days between Norway and Denmark during 1st week of August.
After some research I've been able to jot down a rough itinerary for my self and would like to have your expert comments on the same.
We plan to arrive in Oslo stay there for 4 nights and then 3 nights in Bergen of which 1 days we will do the Norway in a nutshell tour. From Bergen we fly out to Copenhagen(assuming its the cheapest and fastest way to reach Denmark.). Then in Copenhagen we spent another 3 nights and then head back to our home.
Is this itinerary suitable or there is a better way that I can plan this trip.
We are interested in the natural sceneries and a little bit of amusement parks, I believe there is one in Oslo & 1 in Copenhagen just to keep our baby happy too

Let me have your expert opinion in helping me to better plan this trip. Any suggestion of hotels in the city center in Oslo, Bergen and Copenhagen is more than welcome.

Copenhagen has two famous amusement parks - Tivoli is the most well known but also check out Bakken, the world's oldest amusement park and it is also free - How are you going between Oslo and Bergen - the famous Oslo-Bergen Railway I hope - one of the top top scenic railways in Europe.
and of course the Nutshell tour which you can easily do on your own - buy a combo ticket in Bergen's train station for the train to Voss, mountain bus ride down to Norway's largest fjord at Gudvagen - boat across the fjord - we saw whales when we went - to Flam form where a mountain train takes you up to Myrdhal for trains back to Bergen.

4 days would be a lot too much for me - a modern city - I'd suggest taking a couple of days off Oslo and adding to Copenhagen where there is a plethora of really neat esy day trips to take - like to Helsingor and hamalet's Castle; the Louisiana Outdoor Statue Park; Roskilde and the Viking Ship Museum and Frederiksborg and the sumptuous royal castle on an island in a lovely lake and the Round the Sound loop - take a train over the bridge/tunnel over the ore Sound to Malmo - take a train to Lund - to me one of the nicest Scandinavian cities - sweet university with a nceat campus - then train to Helsingborg, Sweden and take the short ferry ride over to Helsingor - Hamlet's Castle - and train back to Copenhagen - sounds like a lot but travel time is relatively little - anyway IME a lot more to see and do in Copenhagen itself and in its environs than in Oslo - plus Denmark is much cheaper than Norway, one of the most expensive countries on the planet.

Your 3 year old might enjoy Copenhagen Zoo. Tivoli Gardens is a great place for kids as well as adults, Bakken is as well but it is a bit scruffy. Having said that, it is near a Deer Park and you can take a horse & carriage ride (v expensive!), a beautiful beach and one of the best suburbs of Copenhagen.

Thanks you so much for your replies. It has made my life so much more easier.
We have decided to add one more day to Copenhagen based n your suggestions.
I am now going to get booking on the hotels. Any link that you would suggest for booking the NIN tour.

Taking the train from Oslo to Bergen you are doing part of the Norway in a Nutshell Tour. I would consider breaking it up into two days and spending the night in Flam. I actually did not think Flam itself was all that great but it will save backtracking and allow a more leisurely pace for that part. Bergen itself has plenty to do for 3 days, and there are other day trips from there.
Look into what you actually want to do in Oslo. When I started researching it I ended up dropping it entirely as it didn't sound nearly as interesting as the things around Bergen. Copenhagen also has lots to do. With 10 nights I'd do 2 Oslo, 1 Flam, 3 Bergen and 4 Copenhagen.

Abut two days in Bergen would be enough for me after having been there - a small city really - but yes you can day trip a few miles south to see the Bog Man - a preserved thousands of years old corpse in a museum.
I agree Flam is not much but has a spectacular setting - lots of folks there in day but at night very few and takes on a rather surreal feeling of being out in the middle of nowhere.
