Island of Capri

My husband and I are going to the Amalfi coast in May. We are thinking of taking the ferry over to Capri from Sorrento and staying in Capri for one night before going to Positano. Any suggestions of where to stay?

Not unless you provide a specific budget in euros - and an idea of what you want: cheap and cheerful, moderate, luxury resort????

We were thinking between 400-500 euros a night. We may actually stay 2 nights.

Thanks

Good idea, IMO! I found Capri much more magical after day trippers left. Do consider visiting the Villa San Michele in Anacapri -- lovely!

We much preferred Capri to Positano so agree with your plan to stay at least one night, preferably two. It is lovely in the evening and morning when the cruise ships aren't there.

Luna has an absolutely beautiful swimming pool, but the staff is snotty.

We always stay at Quisisana. However, its rituals can be a tad overwhelming for the uninitiated.

Whoops! I just looked at their rates, and my curiosity is considerably dimmed.

Depending on whether you are going in the first half of May or the last half, you might need to check whether swimming pools are open, or even if so, heated. Or if you don't imagine a lot of poolside lounging anyway, you might consider looking for a place that doesn't have a pool but has other amenities instead.

If it is breezy, Capri can feel decidedly cool in May, especially the first half. While it is great for uphill walking, and it keeps the views clear rather than hazy, it might not be inviting for sunbathing. Definitely plan to bring some kind of evening wrap/jacket so you can enjoy the outdoors comfortably.
