Schladming, Austria

Looking for moderate priced lodging in the Schladming area. Something quaint, with views. Open to hotel, B&B, house/apt. Enjoy walking, hiking. Thanks!

Hi,

We stayed near Schladming, in Ramsau am Dachstein, Dec. 2013. We stayed at the Pension Haus Maria. LOVED our stay. Hosts Alistair and Denise are tops, as is the location and alpine views. Without a car, they will pick you up at the train station in Schladming and of course, on departure, drive you back there. There is a very inexpensive transport bus system covering this area, which I believe is free to holders of a "guest card", which is free from the Pension Haus Maria. The card also allows a free trip on Der Dachstein cable car journey, which is absolutely spectacular and near the Pension Haus Maria.

Hi,

It's maybe 6 or 7 miles between the two. The road is steep and winding, as Schladming is in a valley and Ramsau am Dachstein sits on a plateu above it. Takes maybe 15 min tops to drive between the two places. The views along the drive are incredible. Ali and Denise are terrific hosts. They both go way above and beyond to make your stay perfect. Our second night there they invited us to accompany them to visit a few old town Christmas markets (it was Dec.) and then for dinner. We felt as if we were visiting old friends after about 15 minutes after our arrival there. They have a 24/7 coffee/tea/hot chocolate self serve bar, wonderful buffet breakfast (incl in room price), gorgeous views of the alps and I doubt there's anything Ali doesn't know about the area... sights, activities, etc. They have a "youtube" channel which Ali posts his own videos of many places and activities in the area and beyond.
