Transfer time in Sydney between domestc and international?

I have a reservation on hold with Qantas using miles from Alice Springs to Sydney to LAX. They are giving me only 70 minutes and am wondering if that is enough time at the Sydney airport to go from domestic to international?

From our past experience, you would be pushing it. You need to get a bus from the domestic terminal to the international terminal so you are relying bus times, plus possibly a long walk from the entrance to your gate. Will you have to check in again in Sydney and get seat allocation - that will all take time.

I would think if both flights are with Qantas, they are obliged to get you from T3 to T1 ? They have their own transfer bus.

We are flying Qantas Perth Sydney LAX with a 70 minute stopover in Sydney next week. We have been assured that there will be no problem. I guess our baggage will be booked straight through to LAX when we check in in Perth

I would give myself more time if I were you. A couple of years ago I had 90 minutes between flights and I felt so rushed that it was stressful. It took ages for officials to let us board the transfer bus (a good 25 minutes) while the bus stood empty just outside. By the time they opened the doors there were so many people in the lounge there was a bit of a rush to get on the bus and of course not everyone got on. Then I got caught behind three people who walked so slowly and took up the width of the corridor it was hard to get past them. I think it took over an over an hour from landing at the domestic terminal to arrival at the international airport. I had very little time to go claim back my GST on purchases. It was just very stressful. I won't do that again in Sydney. I think it's different in Melbourne where the International terminal and the Domestic terminal are in the same building.

I had the same option and said no. Took an earlier flight, paid for it with actual money, saved some miles, gave us a 4-hour lead time - there's only one flight per day going where we're headed in the US so missing it would be . . . inconvenient.

I decided to NOT take it as my daughter just did it today and said that it was over 20 minutes just on the bus to get from international to domestic.
