Western Norway Scenic Route
I am looking for the most scenic route by car from Bergen to Alesund........within reason, considering time and ferries etc.
I found "A Coastal Journey from Bergen to Alesund" online and am working with that for my itinerary.
It goes Bergen to Forde on the E39, pretty straight forward.
It then veers off west to see Floro-----I like this detour as it claims it is interesting to see the very outer coast of Western Norway. Does anyone have an opinion as to whether seeing the coast at Floro is worth it?
The next bit is Floro to Selje which seems a bit arduous to get to and I'm not sure I care if I see Selje or not. It is supposedly the birth place of Christianity in Norway and this doesn't interest me; I'm more into the natural beauty and hiking. Any opinions on seeing Selje?
Anyway, from Floro you head north on the 614 then take the Kjelkenes-Smorhamn ferry then the 616 north again and the Oldeide-Maloy ferry. All of this looks like it would be very scenic and I'm ok with the route to that point.
From Maloy, I think I will skip the part that goes to Selje and just head to Alesund from here. I am choosing between the 15, 61, Koparneset-Arvik Ferry, 61, Hareid-Sulesund ferry route or, the 15, E39, Folkestad-Volda ferry, E39, Festoya-Solavagen ferry route.
I know this is a terribly long post but if anyone has any advise it would be much appreciated.
I'm also wondering what activities/attractions there are to do on the way. We are particularly interested in hiking and would love to rent a kayak to kayak for an hour or 2 on one of the fjords. Does anyone know if there are kayak rental shops anywhere. I have found multi day kayak tours but we don't have time for that.
Thanks so much.

We drove from Bergen to Trondheim staying in Alesund for one night. Not looking at a map-, I suspect that we took a more inland road which did take us over some relatively high mountain passes. Look for my Norway trip report, if interested; click on my name to find it.
