Scrub Island recommendations?

I know that there isn't anything on the island other than the resort. Does anyone have any recommendations for restaurants or day excursions on other islands?

I'm pretty sure they have all sorts of boat excursions to Virgin Gorda, Tortola, etc. I think there is a dive operation there as well. The closest non-Scrub restaurant is a short boat ride away at Marina Cay (Pusser's), then the east end of Tortola/Beef Island.

Thank you, eastenderusvi. Is Pusser's anything more than a good bar?

There is a dive shop at Scrub Island, DiveBVI, that offers excursions:
A snorkel trip with lunch at Cooper Island Beach Club.
A trip to Anegada with lunch at the Big Bamboo.
A trip to Virgin Gorda with lunch at Top of the Baths
A snorkel trip out to Jost Van Dyke with a stop at White Bay and lunch at Willie Ts.

I'm considering booking one of the snorkel trips and then touring Virgin Gorda on our own with a rental car. Is that a reasonable plan?

I'd love to get over to the Dove for dinner and would be interested in a suggestion for another more casual restaurant with good food.

We stayed on Scrub Island last year. We were with another family however so we ended up renting a private boat for a couple of days so we could go where we wanted. We've been to the Virgin Islands a few times and have done a lot of your activities.

I love going to Jost Van Dyke. The sand at White Bay is that fine, blinding white sand and of course it's the home of the Soggy Dollar Bar. Have a painkiller or three. I've had a few painkillers in my life at different places and I think the originals are the best. Try a mango or strawberry painkiller for a little variety. There are a couple of good places to eat on Jost. Foxy's in Great Harbour has good food and there's a great hamburger place on White Bay called Jewel's. They have seriously awesome burgers!

We also had lunch at Cooper Island Beach Club on this trip. Good food. If I remember right the old place burned down so everything is nice and new.

We didn't eat on Virgin Gorda but don't miss a trip to the Baths. Water shoes wouldn't be amiss since there were some slippery steps and wet boulders to climb over.

If you have a chance to snorkel at The Indians you should take it. I think it's off of Norman Island and I think not that far from Willie T's. We didn't eat at Willie T's but it's a fun bar. The diesel fumes from the generator got to me after a while though so we didn't stay that long.

We didn't go to Anegada on this last trip but I've been there before. Six of us took a small private plane from Tortola. First of all there was no one at the airport even though the pilot had made arrangements. We had to call and wait for someone to let us out of the airport as it was all locked up and fenced in. Then our taxi driver had recently been involved in an accident where he hit someone and if I remember correctly killed him. There are only about 200 people on the island! We had lunch at The Big Bamboo and after lunch I decided to take a walk along the very deserted beach. I got a very weird, strange feeling and felt very uncomfortable. I actually ran back to the bar. I'm not a paranoid person but it was really creepy. This is not to discourage you from going to Anegada as many people love it for its isolation. The funny thing about The Big Bamboo is they are known for their lobster. I'm allergic so I had chicken. The other five said their lobsters were overcooked. My chicken was delicious. Cash only, or at least it was cash only when we went.

Okay, back to Scrub Island. Both of the restaurants are good. The grouper I had for lunch at the pool-side restaurant was excellent. There's also a small grocery store at the marina. They make fresh baguettes in the morning.

Pusser's is a nice, casual restaurant with good food. It's fairly typical for a casual restaurant in the Caribbean. I think we made arrangements to go for dinner through the front desk at Scrub Island and they'll arrange the transportation as well. We also happened to be there during a full moon so we went to the full moon party in Trellis Bay on Tortola. It's not quite like the full moon party at Bomba Shack on other end of Tortola but it was fun.

Sorry, didn't mean to write a book! But I hope some of the info is a little bit helpful and maybe I can answer any other questions you have.

Pusser's at Marina Cay has really improved their game. Good pub type food, great happy hour.

Sharona: The place that burned down was Pirate's Bight at Norman Island. And yes, it has been all rebuilt. The bar and restaurant at Cooper Island is similar in feel, but hasn't had a disaster, thank heavens. Great place for lunch, too.

I have never heard anyone say Anegada was creepy. LOL. There's one in every crowd. If you want an empty long swath of beach, this is for you. I wouldn't have the lobster either; it is too easy to overcook.

Birdie: I don't know what sort of transportation they provide, but if you can get to the ferry at Beef Island, I bet you could do a day trip to Virgin Gorda cheaper than the one Scrub wants to sell. And if you rent a car, you'll have the flexibility of seeing the Copper Mine, Leverick Bay, Little Dix, etc.

easternderusvi, thanks for the correction on Cooper Island Beach Club. I thought that's where we had lunch but I'm pretty sure our boat captain said the former place had burned down and in fact there was still construction going on so it was probably Norman Island.

That whole Anegada day was strange. I've only ever felt uncomfortable one other time in all of our trips to the Caribbean so it stands out in my mind. I just felt someone was watching me and since it was so deserted I was really anxious to get back to my group. Then again, I'm not one to like deserted beaches.

Scrub Island has all day long free shuttle service over to Beef Island. I'm quite sure you can get to Virgin Gorda much cheaper than the trip offered through the Dive Center.

And I also like Pusser's. We used to eat at the one in Soper's Hole (Tortola) quite often. Love their key lime pie.

Thank you to both of you. This is great information that helps immensely. My op was open-ended so your "book" is appreciated, sharona. We're only there for four days, not including our two travel days, so I think we will only do two excursions, one by ourselves over to Virgin Gorda and one spent on the Dive bvi snorkel trip. Thanks again. I'll let you know how it all turns out.
