Bruma/Myanmar eVisa

Has anyone seen a published date for (or target date) for when the Myanmar eVisa program will be going live?

The target date was 2 years ago. I don't expect the real eVisa to happen any time soon. You can get a pre-arranged visa through any travel agent. It costs 3xs much as getting it in your own country or getting it in Bangkok.

I was afraid of that. Pre-arranged is tough because my tourop seems not to offer that and from a quick scan it seems "any" travel agent seems to refer to those selling services in-country.

And as there will be no time in Bangkok (plus I'm not wasting what time I have standing in line at any embassy) I'll probably just get a visa in advance from the not so local embassy (and only about $50 total cost).

Oh, you are quite right, only in-country agents can arrange an eVisa. So getting it in advance makes the most sense. I always recommend that people use local agents both to patronize local businesses and because the cost is less than non-local agents.

Kathie,
Can you recommend any local agents in Myanmar?

We used Santa Maria for both of our trips and they were excellent. But there are many good agents in Yangon. I believe Chris45NY gave a list of agents she had fund recommended here and elsewhere in a thread... here are several: Shan Yoma Travel, Myanmar Shalom Travels, One Stop.

I just used the evisa form on the website, and it seems to be working. I just got the confirmation e-mail that my application has been received. I'm supposed to get an answer within the next 5 days, so I'll report back if my visa went through.

Yes, the evisa system is working. Here is the web address:
http://evisa.moip.gov.mm/NewApplication.aspx

It costs twice what it costs to get a visa from the embassy, but everyone reports that it is easy and efficient.

The E-visa costs $50 and I got mine in 7 hours from hitting the "submit" button. I may have been an outlier, but I was astonished. They ask no where NEAR as much information as the physical visa, so if you your is considered money than it is much cheaper. (leave alone Fed Ex costs or those who don't live in DC)

It takes about 5 minutes to complete. They say to allow five days, but as I said, I had it almost immediately.

To me, it's the only way unless you literally live within walking distance of the embassy in DC.
