Has anyone stayed at the Boscolo Exedra Roma, Autograph Collection? If so, we'd appreciate your insight---all information would be helpful. We're planning our stay for 8/16/15 - 9/8/15.

I'm a bit confused about how long you are planning to stay there - are you really meaning that you intend to stay for over 3 weeks [16th Aug to 9th Sept] or do you mean 1 week [9th- 16th Aug]? if it's really 3 weeks, an apartment might be a better bet, and even a really luxurious one is likely to be cheaper than 3 weeks in a hotel.

Boscolo Exedra is a luxury hotel on Piazza della Repubblica, near Termini station. I've never stayed there; it's way out of my price range, but I've walked past it many times. It's not in the quaint part of Rome, but a hotel this large, with a rooftop pool, wouldn't be found in the medieval quarter.

The hotel is very convenient to Termini station and to two of the four sites of the National Roman Museum: Palazzo Massimo alle Terme and the Museum of the Baths of Diocletian. It's across the piazza from the beautiful Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri. Within walking distance are the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine Hill and Trevi Fountain (which will probably still be under renovation when you're there).

It is a Marriott property. It has been mentioned on MRI site a number of times. Joining MRI is free, go to marriottrewardsinsiders.com and sign up, if not already a member, to see the reviews and comments.

Darcie - I find the american way of writing dates so confusing - do you mean 26th August to 9th September? i.e. two weeks? according to the website that's going to cost you over €3000 in even the smallest of their rooms, without breakfast. i wouldn't like to spend a fortnight in a room only 25m square.

Again, I would suggest that unless someone else is paying an apartment might be a better bet.

Dukey and boy toy (actually hair bear) have stayed there. Maybe he will see your post and reply.

My husband and I stayed at the St. Regis Grand, which is a short walk away on the other side of Repubblica.

The hotel has a cafe out front and the price of a coffee is $$$$$!!!! Lucky there is a McDonald's next door.

Most people would not like the location because it isn't convenient to
the top tourist sites.

However, you can get buses at Termini Station and the Metro at Repubblica.

Lots of Fodorites LOVE Albergo Senato across from the Pantheon.

Darcie - have you ever booked an apartment in Europe? [or anywhere for that matter?]

normally people start with google and work from there, just the same as choosing any thing else.

That said, the Slow Travel website can be helpful with apartment reviews once you have chosen a few, and people here will chime in too, so long as you don't expect us to do all your research for you.

another good place to start can be to search the threads here for something like "Rome apartments" - even if you don't like the ones that are mentioned, they will give you a steer to the agencies that may suit what you want. Roman reference.com and italyperfect.com are ones that you might like to look at for starters and now even TA has got in on the act:

another option is the serviced apartment or aparthotel - you have the space and freedom of an apartment, but concierge facilities if you want them - here's something to get you started:

i must make it clear that I have no ties with roman reference at all, but curiosity got the better of me, so i used it to look for 1-2 bedroom apartments between your dates with A/C [essential] wifi, and a terrace.

Being unfamiliar with Rome, I appreciate hearing from those who have been there. Many thanks to those who have been willing to share their opinions in answer to my question. You've been very helpful.

My husband and I stayed there back in 2006 before it became a Marriott property. We found it to be a great hotel though would agree that the cost of breakfast and meals was pricey--and as result we ventured out for all of our meals--occasionally grabbing that cup of coffee at the McDonalds next door. We found it to be convenient for us but I do recall doing ALOT of walking--which was great for us as we came back home at the same weight that we started at despite all the gelato we ate! The most convenient part of it was that it was very close to the Termini station which we used when traveling to the next city we were visiting. In addition, we went in the summer and as a result it was nice to have the ability to use the rooftop pool when we needed a break from the walking--nothing beats the view from the rooftop--it was really lovely. Obviously a lot may have changed since '06 so keep that in mind. This property would particularly be high on my list if I had Marriott Points to defray the cost.
