Layover in Hong Kong Help
Hey everyone. Happy to have joined the forum. Looking for some help.
My wife and I are going to Australia to visit her family. We will be flying on Cathay Pacific from Newark to Hong Kong to Brisbane. We will be landing at 6 a.m. Hong Kong time and have a 6 1/2 hour layover there. We are very exicted to have this time in Hong Kong and we're hoping 6 1/2 hours would be enough to visit central Hong Kong and maybe even Victoria's Peak and have some local food. Does anyone have any experience with this and can give some advice?

6.5 hours isn't a whole lot of time, but it's enough to do what you said you want to do.
Get "same-day return" tickets on the Airport Express train for HK$100 each to the city. Takes 24 minutes to get to Hong Kong station in Central. Walk through Central up a little hill to the Peak Tram station. Peak Tram starts at 7a, and shouldn't be any line early in the morning.
Walk around a bit and come back down. One quick place for local food is Tim Ho Wan in the Airport Express station. Inexpensive place for very good dim sum - it is for dim sum only, not a traditional tea house.
Or, instead of trying to find food in the city, just go back to airport for a more proper tea house experience at either Jade Garden in Terminal 1 or Chao Inn in Terminal 2. [You can go back through immigration at T2 regardless of airline and gate for your departure flight.]

Thanks rkkwan so much for your help... Can you help me with the best way to get to Victoria's Peak from Hong Kong station? First time on Hong Kong and I wanna be as efficient as possible so I don't miss the flight out but need to see the Peak

Best and easiest way is to walk, and you can see part of Central. From the Airport Express station, take exit A2. Cross the street and walk between the General Post Office (short white building) and Jardine House (tall high-rise with round windows). You'll see a pedestrian subway that takes you under the highway and to Statue Square and the HSBC World Headquarters.
Walk THROUGH the HSBC building, cross Queen's Road Central, and go up the escalators to Cheung Kong Centre (tall rectangular high-rise with all glass walls), and proceed to Garden Rd. Turn right and head uphill on Garden Rd. After passing St. John's Cathedral, cross Garden Road and you're at the lower Peak Tram terminus.
Coming down, you can take an alternate route. Go visit St. John's Cathedral (or not), then follow the pedestrian Battery Path that goes from the front door of St. John's down a gentle slope to the high-rises in Central. Walk INTO the Landmark (big mall with all the luxurious brands), and follow the signs up the bridges that connect to Alexander House, then Chater House, and then to Exchange Square and the ifc. IFC is the complex where the Airport Express Station (including Tim Ho Wan), is located.

Regarding the Peak: the most easiest way is to grab a taxi at the Central MTR station or hop on the bus 15C which will take you to the lower peak tram terminus. However, due to the protests this route is currently suspended. Alternatively, you walk as rkkwan described. However, keeping your limited time in mind you might want reconsider taking a taxi up.
