Drinking on safari

I'm writing a piece about the joys of sundowners, amarula and other spirits on safari, and I'd love to get your input. What's your favorite sundowner? Do you have a favorite Amarula cocktail? Have you tried the new Amarula Gold? How did you have it and what did you think? If you're getting a drink at the lodge/camp bar, what do you typically order? Thanks for any help! Once I get done with this, I can reciprocate by posting a trip report on our recent two weeks in Namibia and week in Cape Town.

Ah yes. Reminds of several years ago when I was leading a cohort of university professors through the jungle of West Zabudunga. (Make a vocal click with the "d"). There were five of us explorers and seven native porters. The porters carried all of our provisions, everything, some most heavily laden. The one carrying our two cases of Gin slipped and all lost. He apologized most profusely. But tragically it all drained into the flora. We had to live the next two weeks on nothing but food and water.

cary,
Thats sounds a lot like Churchills safari when he said something like, 'Someone forgot a corkscrew and we had to live on nothing but food and water for a week.'

Anyways for the OP, if it isnt opened in front of me, I wont drink it. Since I dont like African wines, its often just beer

Love South African wines or G&T for sundowners.

G&T for sundowners, red wine with dinner.

I like Amarula and will drink it if someone else does. Haven't tried the Amarula Gold.

I like tradition, too -- G&T for sundowners, SA red wine with dinner. On our first safari with CCAfrica in Botswana, there was a carafe of amarula and a carafe of sherry in our "room" at Sandibe. Enjoyed a nip before bedtime and usually chose the amarula.
