Any restaurant/cafe/bistro recommendations for Montparnasse, south of Luxembourg Garden? I'm going to Paris in June and staying in Montparnasse. It will be my fourth trip to Paris but I've never stayed in this area. Thanks in advance! Looking for mid-price range.

Montparnasse 1900 is good if you want an atmospheric setting.

La Mamma is a very reliable Italian place in Montparnasse.

Montparnasse 1900 looks great. Thanks so much for the links. I especially like the 1920's and decor in the photos. Great history there.

kerouac talked me into trying Montparnasse 1900. It´s about 35€ for a complete meal including drinks, quite a bargain actually and definitely a restaurant you should try.

One of the best restaurants in the area is la Cerisaie at 70, boulevard Edgar Quinet. I would reserve several days in advance as there are only a few tables in the restaurant.

There are also the crêperies of rue Montparnasse and rue Odessa (just to the east of the Montparnasse shopping complex). Crêperie Josselin is particularly well regarded as well as Crêperie Plougastel.

imo-We were neither crazy about the food or atmosphere @Montparnasse 1900. Its glittery, cold with just so-so food. If my latest iphone upgrade didnt wipe out my old email account, I would suggest a provencial restaurant close to M 1900 and about the same price. Maybe someone else can help, its part of a 4-5 restaurant chain in Paris with a tiny(maybe 10 tables) location in Montparnasse, but it neither feels nor tastes like a chain.

I second the recommendation for La Cerisae. Tiny place with the chef in the tiny kitchen and his wife in the front, very, very good food.

Well, in terms of a chain that doesn't look or feel like a chain, I always recommend Chez Papa, whose original location in Paris is on rue Gassendi, along the wall of the Montparnasse cemetery.

I'll also heartily recommend the Crêperie Plougastel.
It's not as well-known as the Josselin, but we have found it less crowded and very good.

One of our favorites near there is Josephine Chez Dumonet a few blocks west of Lux. Gardens. It is an old style French bistro with excellent duck confit, veal chops and Grand Marnier soufflé. They have two seatings and make sure you eat on their time schedule, but we found the food to be very good.
