Jet Star?

We are probably going to book several flights with Jet Star Aus. Just wondering if people generally have good experiences with them and if they are reliable. Thanks.

They're a low cost airline but reasonably reliable.

Be aware of luggage restrictions. Also, they are very strict with check in times. Read the terms and conditions.

If you can survive their convoluted online booking system, you'll probably be fine. Have you considered Virgin Australia?

Jetstar make a lot of their income by add-ons. I hear that they are going to start policing the size of carry-on luggage to catch out those people who are trying to push it by having a bigger carry-on. And if you elect not to pre-book checked luggage you have to pay extra for the checked bag (i.e. the bag you could not take as carry-on). Otherwise they are OK, reliable enough. You will have to pay for drinks and snacks, if that bothers you.

One more thing: luggage costs more to check at the Airport than when buying the ticket.

Thanks. I've now booked one of several domestic flights through Jet Star because there was really only one flight that fit our schedule for that route. The others I will watch for a while.

Jet Star was tricky--over and over they added costs "for my convenience" that I had to go take off. Then at the very last screen, there was a surprise booking fee. Annoying. Glad to hear they're fairly reliable once it comes to delivering what we paid for.

Annoying indeed. It's a wonder they sell any tickets.

Sometimes they are the only carrier to a formerly QF serviced port, Mel.

And there will always be a market for the the product or service that appears to be the cheapest at first glance.

Tell me about it! My old country town had 4 or 5 flights a week in the ice-age 60's & 70's. And 3 trains.

Now, in the ultra modern 2010's it has no planes, the nearest town with one or two a week is 100kms away. The train has been replaced by a twice weekly bus for the last 300kms, the goods trains gone & replaced by independent trucking operators. Progress, don'tcha know!

And they wonder why country people and those out of the "golden triangle" (SYD-MEL-BNE) whinge about lack of transport facilities!

I think we should be taxed according to our access to & use of transport & medical facilities.

I'm quite sure you are fed up to the back teeth with subsidizing us eastern state cityslickers & I would not blame you one bit!

WA residents are indeed fed up with local tax dollars going over east to build roads while our public transport suffers.

Don't get me started on the shortage of medical specialists, which is apparently regulated by population or some such; I don't know how it works, just that I've been personally affected.

You easterners can keep your big city woes though. I rather like living over here in the sticks (until I need to go somewhere
