Day Trips from Falmouth, MA

Visiting Falmouth, MA next week. Wondering what would be good day trips from Falmouth. Willing to travel up to 3 hours away.

What do you want to do/see? Hiking, museums, history, beaches, etc

I would drive out to Provincetown, visit the NP VC in both Eastham and Provincelands, hike in the National Seashore, explore some of the beautiful beaches on both sides of the cape, take a whale watch trip, take the ferry out to Martha's Vineyard from Woods Hole or Falmouth, take the ferry from Hyanis to Nantucket, for starters

Thank you emalloy for your response. There will be 4 ladies all over 50 yrs old so hiking is not in the picture. We love shopping in knick knack shops, eating, and enjoying locals. What does NP VC stand for?

National Park visitors center. Provincetown fits the bill for your interests very nicely. If you come back via 6A below Orleans down through Sandwich, or down 28 on the eastern side through Chatham and Hyannis, you will find many interesting places to stop.

The worst of the crowds will be gone. We love the Cape this time of year.

I am over 50 not exactly athletic. I enjoy the walking trails of the Cape Cod National Seashore immensely. They are not strenuous hikes. Check them out.

You could also day trip to Boston or Plymouth.

We just got back from our 2nd trip to Falmouth this year - great little town. Lots of beautiful beaches in Falmouth and they are all open to anyone now that the season is over.
Take a drive down to Woods Hole and stop at Nobska Light. This is a beautiful drive with some very nice homes along the way. As others have mentioned, you can explore the entire Cape and the islands. Boston is about 90 minutes from Falmouth. If you are shoppers, there is a huge Ikea at exit 19 off route 24 just south of Boston.
If you are so inclined, there is an absolutely fabulous flat, paved bike trail in Falmouth winding past beaches, marsh, and cranberry bogs. You'll see many seniors using it this time of year. Bikes can readily be rented.

Walking around and going in little shops describes Chatham.
Closer to Falmouth is Woods Hole.
