Beach selection in Thailand

Hello,

I'm looking at 3 different beach areas in Thailand for the last part of my trip. Upper Golf (Hua Hin and around) Lower Golf (Ko Samui, Surat Thani, and the islands around) and Puket/ The Andaman.

My interests are very broad. I want a beautiful beach, with nice party life (would like to go to the full moon party) but also with activities during the during. I am planning to stay in that area for about 5 and 6 days. If you were to choose one of those areas which one would be your base?

It will be wet on the Andaman Sea side. Average rainfall in Phuket in May is 13.7 inches, in June is 8.4 inches. On the Gulf side Koh Samui/Surat Thani get 7.3 inches in May, 4.4 inches in June. The Hua Hin area will be driest with 4.3 inches in May, 3.1 in June.

Be aware that it isn't just the rainfall that may interfere with your plans, the sea will be rough on the Andaman Sea side and beaches are likely to be red-flaggged. On the other hand, if you aren't interested in swimming, you can get great prices at resorts on that side.

Rainfall data from www.weatherbase.com

Thanks so much, that's really interesting! So June is better than May rainwise?

Yes, I really wanted to swim I guess Ko Samui is not so bad at 4.4 inches, am I right?

samui is more expensive generally to get to fyi.. Bangkok air is the best way..

I have had very good experiences in hua hin in june in the past. not sure if the night life would meet your expectations however..

Thank you! I will do more research on the Hua Hin area. I'm not looking for a crazy party area, but I would like to go out once or twice.

Fmps are in koh pha ngan.

Hua Hin is mostly Thais and old euros. Not very interesting.

Samui and kpn is where you should go if you want the fmp.

Phuket and Phi Phi have nightlife.
