Caribbean 10 days - where to go?

Hi Everyone,

After a lot of research on the caribbean islands Im now asking you! We are going 10 days for our honeymoon during hurricane season in beginning of september. We looked into islands like St Lucia and Guadeloupe etc but they are all to expensive to fly to and no flights on our way back.

We are looking for:

- nice beaches
- not too explored places with a lot of american hotells and all inclusive more like bungalows or B&B
- genuin and nice people
- authentic food, snorkeling/diving
- hiking or exploring small islands etc.
- small towns with some bars and restaurants...

My lastest research was Bahamas, any recommendations??

The Out Islands in the Bahamas may have what you want, but it may be costly to get there.

Consider St. John or Tortola. Both meet most of your criteria.

Nevis meets most of your criteria, but has poor snorkeling.

what is your home airport?
excluding airfare how much is your budget?

st john, usvi might work for you but most people rent houses and your bride may not wish to cook on honeymoon. also you have to rent a car.

another possibility if you want much less developed would be one of the small resorts on tulum beach, mexico. someplace like ana y jose's or one of the other small resorts nearby

this place is very small and very romantic http://www.mezzaninetulum.com/?utm_k...ampaign=Hotels

Thank you very much for your response! We leave 1st of sept from SF airport and fly back 12th sept.

We don't want to pay more than 800 dollars for a flight that takes more than 15hours since we are only away 10days and are flying back to Sweden right after the 12th.

I have looked into BVI and USVI but they are all over 900 to fly to.. =/

Tulum looks nice as well I like the places you sent!

Vicnroy do you mean by flight or boat from the main islands?

Check out Cape Santa Maria Resort or Stella Maris Resort on Long Island in the Bahamas. You'd have to first fly to Nassau then get a connecting flight to Long Island. Both places give you everything on your "Wish List".

You're leaving from San Francisco (SF)? Have you considered Hawaii instead. You can get there in 6 hours for around $500 and not risk hurricane season.

Thanks! RoamsAround the resorts looks nice but is there any town around there with bars and restaurant or is it only all inclusive?

Yeah Suze, we might end up there but part of my husbands family is from there so we wanted to try something new =)

At Staniel Cay right now. (With Kristen!).

Wow amazing electric water.

Most Bahamas out islands don't have real towns and bar hopping or nightlife. They are off the beaten path and amazing, but different experience.

You want nightlife go to Atlantis!

Harbour island had a small town, as does Hopetown (Abacos). Other than that quite sleepy (although even quietest island has 1 lively bar) and don't expect shopping.
Out islands have food packages, most aren't true ai except for Club Med San Salvador.

It's a different Caribbean experience for sure.

Contact below link, they have island hopping (part of Bahamas tourism) and can combine charter air between islands (usually pretty reasonable, sometimes free)

The "towns" on Long Island, and most of the other Out-Islands, are really small villages with only a few buildings and perhaps a local place serving food & drink (that may not always be open). The "bars" will be at the different resorts/hotels on the island and an occasional "watering hole" where the locals while away the evening.

FYI - when you want a "small islands" and want to shy away from places "with a lot of american hotels and all inclusive" - you are not going to find much "action" as there won't be very many people to support all those kind of things.

I'm in Seattle. I've gone to Negril Jamaica with friends recently, which was lovely. But it was a LOT more work and expense and time to get there, then when I go to Hawaii or to Mexico - my "go to" spots for a sunny vacation.
